I can't remember the last time I've bought a CD. Actually, I bought In Rainbows, but I don't think that counts.

I miss having CD's, but I HATE shopping at the places that have them the cheapest.
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

i was just talking about that the other day.  and i used to be SO good about buying music.  i bought the In Rainbows boxset, before that it was New Pornographers, Wilco, Elliott Smith last summer.  LAST SUMMER.  i have heard dozens of albums since then.  that's terrible.  the main problem for me was: eMusic.  almost EVERY one of my favorite albums from last year was available on eMusic and it just didn't make sense to pay for it twice!  Okkervil River, The National, Arcade Fire, New Pornos (i only bought the cd for the bonus stuff), Apples In Stereo, etc etc etc.  seriously.  those are the albums i would have bought for real and that just got me used to the idea of not having the physical copy.  blame eMusic!
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

It's pretty much the opposite for me. Before last summer or so I bought none of the music I listen to. It started in high school when I was interested in listening to all this music I was just discovering but didn't have the money to do so. So now, having some money I still shouldn't be spending on music, I buy a CD every now and then, a couple a month or so. Ironically, nowadays I hardly ever buy DVDs when in highschool that's what I was wasting all my money on. Now I just rip and burn other peoples' or the library's.

Panda Bear: Person Pitch

if you're not familiar, Panda Bear is a drummer from Animal Collective.

this album ranks high in the past few years, and gets better every single time i listen to it.

edit: just saw that pitchfork gave it '07 album of the year. hm.

Obviously what you are doing right now is called (in my upcoming book of psychology at least) validation. I think it's a normal thing to do. People will reply, say anything, and then you're gonna do what you were subconsciently thinking of doing all along.

I agree.  It's what the Beach Boys would sound like today if they'd stayed together the past 40 years, never aged, and didn't go crazy.

First of all, that was meant to distance Panda Bear from the Beach Boys, not say anything negative about Panda Bear.  And what I really should have said was "stopped writing as dynamic chord progressions" or even more accurately "stopped using as many chords".   Person Pitch is full of beautiful vocal harmonies which invites a comparison to the Beach Boys, but the way the songs evolve out of the repetition of simple phrases (the majority of "Comfy in Nautica" only implies two chords, for example) separate the songwriting of the two bands  so much that relating them to one another seems silly.

Let's listen to some country:

Boom Bip and Gruff Rhys create a concept album about John Delorean...oh I'm all over this beast. I'm so happy that everyone is finally embracing how great the music of the 80's was...it's about time.
