i listened to clips of Vampire Weekend and i don't know (yes i know, clips can be deceiving) it seems like they will fade fast unless they change something up on the next album. i see a very Strokes-esque career trajectory. the first band i thought of was The Coral. Coral mixed with Strokes and a slight Britt Daniel vocal influence.

then again, if i want Afro beat pop i want David Byrne yelping on top of it.

i've read about A Toot and a Snore. is it purely bootleg?

I would be very surprised if anyone knew who the hell these guys were in four years time...but I'm certainly enjoying this cd for the time being.

it is purely bootleg. A lot of fun. At the very beginning John asks if Stevie wants a toot and a snort, referring to the cocaine that Lennon was taking at the time. It was recorded in burbank recording studios. The sound isn't perfect but its really amazing for a bootleg, and a quasi-beatles one at that. The best track is the one I just finished, a rendition of "Lucille". Paul plays drums and does backup vocals and Lennon's Asian LA girlfriend/ex houseworker plays tambourine. This was during Johns 'Lost weekend" in LA which lasted 18 months.
The Beatles know Jesus Christ has returned to Earth and is in Los Angeles.

ha, i just read this on the wiki entry:

the room froze when McCartney walked in, and remained perfectly silent until Lennon said, "Valiant Paul McCartney, I presume?" McCartney responded: "Sir Jasper Lennon [a character Lennon played during an early TV appearance skit], I presume?" McCartney extended a hand, Lennon shook it, and the mood was pleasant but subdued, cordial but not especially warm (at least initially).

where can one get this - somewhere where it will stay up a while until i can get to a fast connection?

You have to listen to the album...absolutely no resemblance with either The Strokes or The Coral...and I think that the african inspiration is very far from what Eno and Byrne did in the early 80's...this is like modern indie-rock mixed with modern West- African music.

It's so narrow-minded to just immediately  think Peter Gabriel or David Byrne when you hear the words "Africa" and "music" (Like Pitchfork do).... as if "music" in Africa was born when they arrived... I'm not saying that this album is monumental or anything (maybe it is, I have to listen to it some more) but it is without doubt very refreshing...and let's face it there is so much crap getting hyped at the moment!

....but maybe it's the way The Strokes would sound if they were from Dakar!

you left out 'pop.'

i don't really think they sound like actual African music.

maybe 'polyrhythmic' is the right word.

it still doesn't change the fact that when i hear those combinations of words i want to hear Talking Heads.

The Clipse are back...best line..."Big chain around my neck like I'm fresh off the Amistad." These guys even know how to end something...unlike Spielberg...the last track is terrific (uses only Dre. Dre produced beats.)

I am so excited for their album, I pre-ordered it awhile ago and this track is a confirmation that Dan Whitford still has it. I urge anyone interested in electronic dance music to check this out.

It comes out in April and is produced by DFA co-owner Tim Goldsworthy. I'm pretty excited too. They are going on a European tour as well....but unfortunately no Danish dates for me yet....

I used to listen to their Rawq album back in my BT days. They recently came back with this beast of an album. Great melodies and production techniques. Sample & buy the album here:

If Bearhug and Material Things (House) end up on the next album its going to be incredible. Strawberry Whaaa?

Just listened to the whole thing and it sounds like an amazing set. Bearhug and Material Things are both great but I'd also like to throw in Brother Sport and Daily Routine.
