^one of my favorite albums and a cover that looks the way the music sounds.

Both, or is this wonderful sarcasm again?...

Yeah, I can't see liking DMB anymore.  Talk about a landslide.

To their credit, Before These Crowded Streets was beautiful.  But this new album is just so banal.

Yeah, I feel that way too, although I feel that if they had gone through with their "Lillywhite Sessions" that would've easily been the best (since it almost is) and they wouldn't have gotten "lost," which is the only way I feel I can explain what's happened to them. Then again, it could just be me, since I was once the die-hard DMB fan (along with my sister, who still is) and they're responsible for bringing me out of my rap/"wigger" phase (excuse the expression), but I've moved on.

I was really disappointed with this record, and I was hoping that it would be a....er, "return to form" with them, especially based on the wonderful cover. But, something seems to be weighing them down, musically. I know that LeRoi's death must be hard on them, but I don't think it's just that. The arrangements for the most part are uninteresting and the production/sound feels dead. There's no life there, no life like there was before. Crash and ...Crowded Streets I think are still great albums with some REALLY beautiful songs, but nothing since has even compared, and that's just heartbreaking.
I've always felt that they still had one really great record left in them, and maybe a part of me still does, but I'm beginning to lose patience to the point of giving up on that. =/
We often went to the cinema, the screen would light up and we would tremble, but also, increasingly often, Madeleine and I were disappointed. The images had dated, they jittered, and Marilyn Monroe had gotten terribly old. We were sad, this wasn't the film we had dreamed of, this wasn't the total film that we all carried around inside us, this film that we would have wanted to make, or, more secretly, no doubt, that we would have wanted to live.

This is fun but its basically Deerhunter just fucking around and showing that they can make something good when they're barely trying. It's not anything epic but it's a decent listen.
