Quote from: godardianMeatball, how is Meantime? I just re-watched All or Nothing this weekend and would be excited to see good Mike Leigh I haven't seen yet....

Sorry about my tardiness.

Meantime isn't bad, but it isn't great. The reason I didn't love it was because I couldn't really understand what was coming out of their royal English mouths. Tim Roth does a good job as the introverted young man, and you can see that Gary Oldman is just warming up for his future roles. It's about working class Brits, and their frustrations about work and family. I only wish I could understand what they were saying!

Oh, good... that's one thing I've never had a problem with. This is where my lifelong Anglophilia pays off!!  I bet it's more working-class English than royal English coming from Mike Leigh, though...  :)

Me:

""Money doesn't come into it. It never has. I do what I do because it's all that I am." - Morrissey

"Lacan stressed more and more in his work the power and organizing principle of the symbolic, understood as the networks, social, cultural, and linguistic, into which a child is born. These precede the birth of a child, which is why Lacan can say that language is there from before the actual moment of birth. It is there in the social structures which are at play in the family and, of course, in the ideals, goals, and histories of the parents. This world of language can hardly be grasped by the newborn and yet it will act on the whole of the child's existence."

Pick a movie title theme night and run with it.. I didn't own any of these, and I decided I should. I hadn't seen American Splendor. The other two I've always wanted to own.

do you know what the deal on this is. i was going to buy it, but this was supposed to originally be a 2 disc version, and now there's gonna be a more extras one coming out later this year.  and now i'm confused.  are you gonna re-buy it if/when another one comes out, or are you satisfied with this version?
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.
