Wouldn't be surprised if Waits is that 'older director' role we were wondering about... he could be a pretty great John Huston. Obviously a little late to speculate given that people have seen the trailer already but just a thought

Wait?! What? Tom fuckin Waits in PTA movie? I'm not complaining about the title any more.

And it seems that Life on Mars is confirmed at this point, ("It's an extremely well-known song, I presume it fits the period, and the actual oldie rather than a new cover."), which sounds so cool.

Ok, I am hyped now.

Yes

I pray MGM comes to their senses and just drops it online ASAP. It's getting leaked this weekend in theaters either way now that word got out it's at New Bev

There's no way they'll release it on a weekend.

Or a leak from some screening during the weekend first?

Historically, Mondays have been a good bet.

It now says on Wikipedia that Ben Stiller is in it

And now I've erased Ben Stiller from the list.

A recap of this crazy Thursday: https://thefilmstage.com/paul-thomas-andersons-soggy-bottom-gets-a-new-vinyl-inspired-title-licorice-pizza/

QuotePremiering in front of screenings of American Graffiti and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America at London's The Prince Charles Cinema, the 35mm trailer then screened last night at LA's New Beverly between the double feature of Kiss Me Deadly and Repo Men as well as at The American Cinematheque before a screening of Strangers on a Strain and at The Aereo before Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!.

Tom Waits and PTA's partner, Maya Rudolph, were reportedly also featured in the trailer, which runs about two minutes and doesn't reveal PTA's name until a third or so in. The trailer also reportedly uses David Bowie's Life on Mars and has tones of Boogie Nights-style comedy and a romance angle.

Describing the trailer, Harry Eskin added that it features "youth and its pangs in a bygone time, wistful, a little melancholy, a little silly, strong Valley presence, Cooper and Penn taking big offbeat swings."

"Soggy Plaza" popped into my mind.
