Merry New Year to me:

Blu-Ray:
Synecdoche, NY + Script (I have been waiting for you...)
Southland Tales (...and you)
There Will Be Blood

DVD:
SNL Season One (~$23 @ Amazon)
-- Seasons Two through Four are also like $23 each.  Five may come down eventually.  Will likely get those soon too.
Roseanne Seasons Eight & Nine (Eight at Amazon; Nine at DDDVD for lowest prices)
Gummo & Julien Donkey-Boy (both under $6 finally at Amazon; I've been waiting for a while for these prices to come down)
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip ($13.99, and worth every penny, especially for the commentary and extras)
-- Rewatching the West Wing right now, and may sell my old Sports Night box to pick up the new one with extras.
-- To contrast, though excellent, 30 Rock Season One is still a "no-way-in-hell" bargain at $35.99.
Greenaway Early Films (~$28 at DDDVD)
-- I'm mesmerized by his short films, so I had to revisit them.  The Falls is something else too, though at its length it gets tedious after a while.

Thanks for the tip on 2001.  It's $9.49 now.  Sunshine Cleaning and The Usual Suspects Blu-Rays are both <$10, and there are some other interesting titles on sale at Amazon now if you look.  Magnolia Blu-Ray preorder is $18.99, PDL is $25.99.

I don't buy a lot of DVD's, but in getting a PS3, it's time to upgrade into blu-ray, so using up all my various giftcards from Christmas, I acquired the following:

"As a matter of fact I only work with the feeling of something magical, something seemingly significant. And to keep it magical I don't want to know the story involved, I just want the hypnotic effect of it somehow seeming significant without knowing why." - Len Lye

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.
