Ghostboy

I saw it again this evening and loved it even more. I was surprised by how much it still managed to surprise/thrill/move me, even though I (technically) knew what was about to happen. It's something I feel to rarely when I see a movie more than once.

SPOILERS

Just saw it, and like the most of you, I liked it better than the first. Especially how it showed that no matter how serious it becomes, it knows its place as a comicbook flick with the freeze-frame during the happy times montage, J.K. Simmons even wilder than in the first, "Here comes the bride"-overload at the end, the way the girl next door manages to set her dinner on fire out of nervousness, and every small Raimi touch, never better than (it's been said countless times) the operating scene.

I realized after leaving the theater how perfect Raimi is for a superhero film, I just hope he makes the inevitable nr. 3 even more Raimish, and for the love of all geeks out there, give Bruce Campbell as major part. As for favorite moments, I gotta say when MJ is kidnapped and Parker decides to return as Spider-Man, trowing the glasses, clenching the fist, the superhero look, man, that's goosebumps material right there! The "He's just a kid" scene on the train hit the right spots as well as the look on Mary Janes face as she sees him without the mask for the first time, and call me sentimental but I thought she delivered the (extremely cheesy) "I'm standing here in your doorway"-line really well (don't really remember if that was the one, but I'm talking about the line where she laughs).

"I've always been standing in your doorway."

I swear I'm still smiling when I think of this movie.  I really think that that freeze frame is in the running for best freeze frame of all time.  It's definitely up there.

Ghostboy

I think the upside down kiss from the first one is definitely up there with the greatest movie kisses of all time...on the basis of new iconic imagery alone.

matt35mm

What upside down kiss?

Haha I know, I just said that in the hopes that someone would post some pictures cuz that scene was HOT!

Thanks, Cronopio.

You're so funny, Ravi.

Anyway...

Quote from: El Duderinodid anybody else think that, at first, when the end credits began to roll that it was "Yellow" by Coldplay? Dashboard Confessional totally stole that riff.
Eh, I didn't think that.  But I would like to say that I, as well as a few people I talked to, don't particularly like Dashboard Confessional but I REALLY DIG "Vindicated!"  Beats the hell outta "Hero" from the first movie.  I think it fits the movie pretty well.

I don't see how it even compares to the freeze frame in The 400 Blows.

Just saw it, I liked it a lot. Didn't read the rest of the thread, but did you guys also feel like this a lot like Batman Returns in the sense that, after a blockbuster, the auteur/directors were able to make a sequel darker and better that the original? By the way, this and Batman Returns are Elfman's finest scores.

Ravi

I thought I heard a little bit of the Beetlejuice score in this film.
