Yeah, I was a little disappointed at first, but after picking up the CD and just sitting and listening to it all the way through, I really like it. It's growing on me. Blood Mountain was more about piecing riffs together and then creating a greater whole, which may be why I just LOVE that album. This is more about building textures and layers and harmonies, and you can just feel that they've grown so much more as musicians. It's less rock out with your cock out and more put your cock away and pay attention.

Very astute observation. I would also suggest picking up the deluxe edition (maybe 5 bucks more) if you haven't because there is a 90 minute "making of" documentary that's quite fascinating and gives you a better idea of where they were coming from and what led them to making this album.

how is it?

It's good. Best since Ultra. It has a mellow overall tone, unlike say Playing The Angel, which was more melodic. They've done away with the guitars and hard sounds and have gone back to their synths, so it's very much in tune with their early stuff like Black Celebration.
