Obviously what you are doing right now is called (in my upcoming book of psychology at least) validation. I think it's a normal thing to do. People will reply, say anything, and then you're gonna do what you were subconsciently thinking of doing all along.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine asked me to recommend a movie for him to watch with the girl he had just started dating.  I recommended, as any good friend would, Before Sunrise.  I asked him the next day how it went.  His response: "Why did you give me that movie?  I got so bored, just waiting for something to happen."  A little stunned, I regained my composure and asked what his girlfriend thought about it.  He said, "I don't know.  She liked it, I guess.  I turned it off after 45 minutes because it was boring me."

So I told him, "If she breaks up with you anytime soon, that's why."  Then I kicked him in the nuts.  Or should have, anyway.

Your friend's reaction was also mine. Then add on that Ethan Hawke's character was just annoying. He didn't grow up or even grow slightly interesting until Before Sunset.

(Sorry the reponce is late. My allergies says I can only check this thread once a month)

Time to drop that class.

The Graduate
- "is that the guy from Scarface?"
- when ben is explaining the MILF situation to elaine and she screams at the top of her lungs, someone asked "why is there so much screaming in this movie?"
- during the seduction scene: "do they have sex?"
- "i don't get how this is deep.."

From that quote, it seems like he's sarcastically taking the piss out of the "x film is like y film meets z film" kind of review. The guy sounds moderately funny.

Lot of snobbery going on in this thread. Hehehe.

Thank You For Smoking is brilliant. It isn't a comedy.. It's a mockumentary!

When Hollywood keeps making the same movies over and over my word for it is "formulaic." Let me explain further: have you ever seen a movie with a chase scene? Have you ever seen two movies with chase scenes? Well there are a lot. And the same thing happens every time. The police are chasing the bad guy and they catch him. For this I have coined the term "formula."

"Subtitles? What, like words?"

"I don't want to read my movie"

"Just get something entertaining."
Film lovers are sick people

A Matter Of Chance

The Fountain
"The second part was just to make it artsy"

Robert Altman
"Oh yah, I loved his tv show."

two people came in today and asked for a refund for Brokeback Mountain because they "didn't know it was a gay movie."/thought it was about two close friends.

Read the synopsis on the back. That's pretty much what it makes the movie out to be. Add in the fact that whoever rented it doesn't watch TV, listen to the radio, or read any magazines, dislike gays, and it's a fairly common mistake.

Of the beginning of pulp fiction:

"the whole thing was like an advertisement for cheeseburgers... in general."

ASoundSo: I actually saw a movie so bad that when it was finally over, somewhere, a baby died. [I don't know if this is old or unoriginal but being french I found it funny and it was the first time I heard it]

ASoundSo: Terrence Malick...he should never be allowed to make another film.  They should cut out his tounge so he cant direct.
ASoundSo: any noteworthy critic who said that is a good movie is lying his ass off.  Terrance Malick is obviously in the Mafia.  [untrue but funny]

bethie is uncool: every single one is 5 stars and makes cinephiles cream their pants
bethie is uncool: maybe some day youll understand [hahaha wtf]

bethie is uncool: when you see as many films as i have and great ones at that, youll know whats good and whats great and what isnt worth your time
bethie is uncool: the new world was on all the critics top ten list b/c theyve all seen great film and they realize what a great film is and that is, the new world
ASoundSo: I beg to differ.  I have probably seen just as many or close to it that you have and I know whats makes a good film.  Its more than just a critic liking it. A film can be great to a critic, but if people other than movie critics dont like it, then its not a great film. it takes both critics and general population to adore a film to make it great [anyone who doesn't agree with that is wrong if you ask me]

bethie is uncool: the new world has a cult following already
ASoundSo: what is so good about it. maybe I can be convinced to join the cult [hahahhaha]

ASoundSo: but I officially rank him next to Stanley Kubrick in my overrated directors file.  This file is set aside for directors who do brilliant work, but then later on do crappy work that gets called brilliant because of their previous brilliant work.  [seriously, yes]

Seriously man I disagree with basically everything you say bethie and agree with most (I like Malick though I hate New World) of what the other guy says even if that makes me a stupid retard
