Marbles is the solo project of Robert Schneider, former lead man of The Apples In Stereo.

"Former"?
You mean, they really broke up? :yabbse-undecided:

Currently rotating between The Libertines and The Arcade Fire.
A little late, I know.
Maybe I'll buy Spoon - Kill the Moonlight next week.

Maybe I like being a year behind the rest of xixax.
We often went to the cinema, the screen would light up and we would tremble, but also, increasingly often, Madeleine and I were disappointed. The images had dated, they jittered, and Marilyn Monroe had gotten terribly old. We were sad, this wasn't the film we had dreamed of, this wasn't the total film that we all carried around inside us, this film that we would have wanted to make, or, more secretly, no doubt, that we would have wanted to live.

Agreed, espcially since all the reviews I'd read were mediocre at best.  I think his partnership with John Vanderslice has been the best thing he ever did..  this makes four brilliant albums in a row.  (Actually, he did All Hail West Texas solo, but the point still stands.)

So I've read..  I figured it had to do with his marriage with Hilary breaking up, but she plays drums on a couple of songs on the Marbles CD, so I guess they're still friendly.  Hopefully that means the Apples are just on hiatus and not offically dis-banded.

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Yes.  I am obsessed with Songs: Ohia at the moment.  As I've posted on my Thomas Edison thread, I have legally acquired the license to use the song "No Limit on the Words" from the album Ghost Tropic.  Jason Molina and Secretly Canadian each OK'd it.  They also each get a copy of the final product (so I'm excited that Mr. Molina may actually see Thomas Edison).

EDIT:

And I just bought this on iTunes because I... I can't stop spending money, it seems.

I died when I heard Hottub.  All of this is good.  I already had a few of the songs (one of the Pyramid songs from the above album is on this).  The score is really really great, and this just works as an album.

It's a lot different...  kinda retro-electronic, not as poppy as the Apples.  It took me a few listens to get into it, but now I think it's really fun in its own way.

Brazilian Girls - Brazilian Girls.

It's great. Track 2 (Don't stop) sounds like it should be pumping at a gay club right before I Will Survive. But everything else is alot of fun. The percussion is awesome and it oozes of attitude and sexiness. Some of it reminds me of a South American version of Zero 7's Simple Things. Some of the tracks are just good chill tracks for a lazy afternoon.
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

Canadian music made by two guys who didn't have any friends and had to start a band on their own.

plus they have one of the coolest band names ever.

You're officially my hero.

deathnotronic

You act as if The Faint coming through your walls is a bad thing. Unless it's select songs "Wet From Birth" or their really shitty first album.

This whole album is based on "Animal Farm."
