Guy has 250 followers and zero engagement on the tweet. You guys should find better targets to dunk on.

Why seek out insignificant posts which you wouldn't find if you didn't search keywords to get mad at? It's like right wingers seeking out blue-haired hysterical college students on Tumblr to cringe at.

Both of these had a fast turnaround from theater premiere to On Demand/Blu-Ray. Hopefully this means we won't have to wait more than 3 months after the premiere to watch LP at home!

In the case of the French Dispatch, I wonder how long it will be before it gets the Criterion treatment.  That bugged me with some of his previous releases how they would come out as bare-bones first and then not too soon after Criterion would do its thing.

Still no Isle of Dogs on Criterion so who knows.

Hoping we get LP on bluray by late January. February for sure tho, I would think.

It doesn't go wide until Christmas Day, so even with these new quick turn arounds, I don't think late January is happening.

Aren't there parts of the world where it won't even open until January?  I would expect digital versions in the Spring sometime...

The door to that Pinball Palace was open today.  I assumed there were workers in there getting it ready.  I'll bet it's open on Nov 26th with actual pinball machines, etc--for a least a month.  If I was a better reporter (and had remembered) I would have stuck my nose in there and asked someone.

Really? I'd heard that the very next day after the shoot, all the signage and set dressing had been torn down and it was back to being a boring ol' empty space for rent. If it's set up again, then they're definitely planning something.

Sorry, I was unclear.   The Village Theater in Westwood has a courtyard--with surrounding shops.  There is a vacant storefront on one side of this courtyard that seems to be getting turned into a "tie-in" Pinball Palace--which is kinda cool on one level.

However, that raises another question in my mind:   Westwood is literally at the southern end of the UCLA campus, which means plenty of college-age kids roaming around (do kids these days still roam around?).  Have they even HEARD of pinball??  Back in my day a pinball emporium would have sucked 'em in like video game stores would a decade later.

Wonder what demographic the marketing team is going for, here?  Which raises my next question:  What demographic do you think will be most successfully reached with the film?

Ahh, gotcha. My guess is their target demo is 20s-30s—youngsters definitely know about pinball—but your guess is as good as mine as to who'll be most successfully reached. No matter who it reaches (or how successful they are), I admire their marketing efforts! That's a cool idea.

"Last Night in SoHo" doesn't open in Australia until November 18th. Denmark the 25th. Japan December 10th. Yet, it'll be On Demand in America on the 19th. "The French Dispatch" releases in Hong Kong and Australia in December. Japan in late January. Yet, it'll be on digital in America on December 14th.

Studios aren't fuckin around anymore when it comes to in home viewing. Welcome to the 2020s.

Yeah PTA's movies always end up opening in Jan in Ireland unfortunately!

Visiting LA for thanksgiving weekend, is the film ONLY playing at the Westwood theater until the nationwide release or will it play at the Aero or Los Feliz ?

wilberfan

In  a post-screening panel on Sunday (?), Paul said it would be playing exclusively in L.A. at the Village theater until Christmas.

I'm sure post-Christmas places like the AC, New Bev...maybe Vista would have it at some point.

Isn't it amazing to have this movie coming out after shooting in 2020 (which was a brutal, brutal year) isn't it amazing to have a film from PTA so quickly after PT? Especially with the way 'the business' is going, VOD releases for 'smaller movies', big movies struggling throughout the pandemic.

It's impressive what they were able to conjure up as a production during the first year of COVID Compliance protocols - and it's going to feel all the more impressive I imagine once I've seen the flick and there's a fully realized PTA film therein without a trace of interference. From studio, pandemic, or audience expectation.

I agree, it's impressive what they've done. In the Variety interview it was so sweet to hear him say that this was a great/safe shoot, his love for SFV is also palpable. Also can't wait to see what he serves up as co-DOP again. Honestly feels like we're in for something really special.

Also from the Variety interview - PTA and Denzel would be INCREDIBLE!!!  :bravo: PTA's pen game is crazy - Denzel and him could absolutelty devastate cinema. Movie gods, pls make it happen!
