Tell me how Kagemusha is.

Kagemusha is long and beautiful and full of many subtleties that I'm sure I will begin to truly pick up on in subsequent viewings.  It is a very interesting work, engaging to a degree but it lacks a central character to really latch onto.  I'm not sure of the artistic significance of that yet.  Everything is presented very formally.  It is historical and theatrical, sad and beautiful.  I'm not very well-versed in the cinema of Kurosawa, but I can get the feeling that Kagemusha is a unique film for him, both in the telling of the story and in the story itself.  There is a lot to take in and my thoughts haven't completely congealed.  It is a film worth exploring and I am only at the beginning of the expedition.  If that makes any sense.

I haven't seen it -- in fact, I lied, i didn't buy either one of those movies, just thought it'd be funny to put them beside each other -- but about I STAND ALONE: i read that the final thirty-something minutes are so horrible and brutal that, before it all starts happening, a warning comes on the screen.
