AND THE GREATEST FIND EVER!!

The Out-Of-Print Criterion Edition of Robocop--the unrated director's cut that would have gotten it an X-Rating.  I've been wanting this for so long and I just happened to find it at Amoeba Music in Berkley.  Ahhh my lucky stars.

Jeez, I'm jealous of you Matt. That Robocop Criterion I've heard is pretty awesome..I got....

The new MGM release is the Unrated version, has the same extras as the Criterion edition (except for different commentary tracks) and is in 5.1 Dolby Digital, which the Criterion release is not mixed in.

So matt, you can buy the MGM release and sell the Robocop for $200 on eBay, just like a friend of mine bought the original 400 Blows Criterion just a couple of months before the Doinel box came out.

HaHa. The set is awesome. It also comes with a blindfold and large poster of Elizabeth Berkley so you can play "Pin-The-Pasties-On-The-Showgirl." What else is funny is that MGM doesn't want to advocate drinking or alcoholism, so they have production stills with drinking games on the back to be played with "NON-ALCOHOLIC beverages" even though the set comes with shot glasses.

Yeah, but I've been hearing about this MGM release for 6 months, and it was what I was waiting for.  But I just happened to see this in the store and so... why not?  The MGM release currently out is listed as Unrated at Amazon, but further research makes it seem as though that is the R-Rated cut, and that the Unrated Cut has just never been delivered by MGM.

Either way, I'm wasn't sure, and I was tired of waiting to see, so I was glad to see this in the store.

EDIT:  Further research makes it seem as though the RoboCop Box Set has the unrated cut.  And I'm also not sure if it has the same commentary as on the Criterion (that may be Criterion only).

Well then I still own a fairly rare thing.  Anyway I'm happy with my purchase.

this brings up an interesting point.  do people even buy movies anymore just because they like them?  or are we so distracted by the extras or the coverart or the rareness of it that we are filling up our shelves with movies that might not be there otherwise.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.
