anyone care to talk about the upcoming movie big fish?

MrBurgerKing

To be honest I actually now regret starting this thread. Big Fish is probably going to be dissapointing. The last time Burton handled such a great cast, he made Mars Attacks!

MrBurgerKing

To give credit where credit is due though, it's not like he was working from great material. Warner Brothers ordered burnt Chicken McNuggets, and got burnt Chicken McNuggets.

I'm looking forward to this. I think one of Burton's major problems seems to be in the scripts he chooses. I'm hoping that because it was based on a book it might be a step up for him. Has anyone read the book? I'm a little concerned, though, because the guy adapting it also wrote Charlie's Angels.

Yep.  Mars Attacks! was just dissapointing to those who were expecting a serious big alien adventure.  I think where Burton really floundered was with Planet of the Apes.  Where was his signature on that one?  I see Big Fish as a return to his original form, and I've heard the script was downright phenomenal.  I've also read the book, and am eager to see its adaptation to the big screen.

I watched Ed Wood today, hopefully this will be more like it than like say... Planet of the Apes

i too agree with said quote.

Now I feel like a prick saying that Mars Attacks! is trash.. what can I do about it? I'm not going to go back and edit my post, because that'll make me look even worst.

It's all good! What don't you like about the film, though?

I think it's a brilliant 'fuck you' to the Hollywood blockbuster machine. It takes all the cliches of something like 'Independence Day' and just twists them to an absurd level. I mean, aside from the ending, it's completely anti-humanity! How great is that?

I don't know, kind of a waste of talent. Burton could have assembled that cast and budget for a good script instead of Mars Attacks!

If it's half as good as Edward Scissorhands, I'll be fucking happy. That movie is too good. He needs to do something that's really dark like that again.

And yes, Planet of the Apes sucked...if it's anything like that, I'll wait for a rental.
