no WAY!  batman or edward scissorhands depending on your tastes.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

My taste moves towards "Ed Wood".

thats okay too.  although admittedly i havent seen it since it first came out on video. it was recently on some movie channel and i watched about 25 minutes of it in the middle and liked it a lot more than when it first came out, (which i would've been like 12/13?)  the movie was a lot funneir to me now, so i cant wait for the dvd release so i can finally re-watch it.

it was a nice little film, but for me, i enjoy Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands a lot more. i think the fact that i guessed the ending just a little into the film kinda ruined it for me.

how do you think Burton filmed the giant? it was so seamless.....i'm trying to figure out

.....theRe is nothing to figure out .....you saw the "end" of the film he was real.......

TheVoiceOfNick

Just saw this the other night.  I thought it was awesome... I can see how that one critic (was paid to) said it was the new Wizard of Oz.  It has some of those elements in it.... but this was much better than Wizard of Oz.

Alethia

the fantasy elements were perfect, but tim burton can't handle a real scene between two people for some reason, the closest he came was with ed wood but still it was a little "off" (fuckin brilliant tho)....but that's okay, it was a good try.  big fish is a good movie. nothing more, nothing less.  certainly much better than that planet of the apes shit.  bring on wonka.....

Sorry, I just have to, being a Burton-aholic and all:

out of a 5 star scale

Vincent- ****

Frankenweenie- ** 1/2

Beetlejuice- **** 1/2

Batman- **** 1/2

Edward Scissorhands- *****

Batman Returns- ****

Nightmare Before Christmas (I know he didn't direct it)- ****

Ed Wood- *****

Mars Attacks- ****

Sleepy Hollow- ****

Planet of the Apes- ***

Big Fish- **** 1/2

So, by my calculations, Big Fish is Burton's best since Ed Wood, and I'm seeing it for the second time in about 1 hr. and a half.

Another note: I am more than ready for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Especially having Depp as Wonka, it's going to be sooo badass!!
Long live the King of imaginative films, LONG LIVE TIM BURTON!!

good movie with flaws here and there. reminds me of the stories i used to hear that just went all over the place in very little time. tangents that connected to help resolve each other.. funny and weird and sorta touching at different times.. best part was either the rocking chair scene or the whole war sequence. specially the mega-ultimate martial arts fighting guys.

i think we can all agree that "she'll turn you into soap. that's what she does. turns people into soap." is the best line i've heard all minute.

it messed itself a little with the skewed logic.. the stuff that just doesn't make sense in a movie regardless of whether or not it's a fantasy. and the character of the son didn't work at all. he just pretty much acted as the blocker of everything. i think Burton managed to make the movie better than the script was to start.

i wish they had played the "Escape From The Hospital!" thing up a bit more, too.

on a scale of 1 to 1.1, i'd give it a 1.0797.

GodDamnImDaMan

This is my fav Burton movie....

I REALLY had doubts after Planet Of the Fuckos....

But this was the only movie...that made me cry....Yes you all heard it...I cried like a little baby.

the only tim burton films i like are BATMAN, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and ED WOOD.  everything else is really bad and really overrated!  i was kinda disappointed by BIG FISH.

Tim Burton is one of the best living director if you ask me.

I loved Big Fish ... though a little less than I expected.

I think the only "tumble" that Burton has taken was with Planet of the Apes.  Mind you, I'm not a hater of that film, I thought the script was terrible, but I thought Burton did a better job than anybody else could've done with that film, regardless of the quality of the script.  So, that's not a tumble on Burton's direction, just the consistency of his movie's quality.  Other than that, he's nothing but pure imaginative gold.  I'm shaking with anticipation over my thoughts of what his rendition of Wonka is gonna be like.
Here's how Tim will do it...he said in an interview that he's not a big fan of the original film.  That it's too sappy at parts when it shouldn't be, and that it made the film weird (Burton actually calling a film weird....now I've heard everything), but he's a big fan of the book, and has been since a child.  So, my guess is he'll end up taking what he likes about the original film, and what he likes about the book, give it a Burton twist...and if that's not enough...FUCKING JOHNNY DEPP AS WILLY WONKA is thrown in the mix.  How can you not be salivating in anticipation.  I don't care if you were a big fan of the original film or not (I enjoy the original a great deal, and normally would be upset that they're gonna be remaking it, but as long as Burton is attached.....)...this is gonna be very entertaining and very enjoyable in about every way (visually, for sure!), at least....I hope.  I hope I'm not just wishful thinking a little too far in advance.  Eh, what the hell, I can if I want!
