It's amusing that you keep responding to remarks nobody's had made, as if your automatic defensiveness was  generating confusion.

It's also important to point that « online backlash » is often a very manipulative way to create that kind of reaction by highlighting the most minor, outrageous voices in social media in order to preemptively ridiculise any discussion.

Anyway, you're stuck on the individuals. What about his daughters! They may be talented! Yes! Maybe! But it doesn't matter! Wouldn't you like a cinema industry where...it does matter? I'm sure you do.

I heard Ben Stiller is playing a young Jerry Stiller!

LOL https://pagesix.com/2021/07/29/ben-stiller-faces-backlash-over-debate-about-nepotism-in-hollywood/

QuoteThe comic star faced an online backlash after defending a new project written by and starring the children of several Hollywood A-listers — not unlike himself.

What's the big deal? Billionaire Steven Spielberg's daughter is directing a short movie, wherever did she get the money and contacts to do that?

Everyones probably forgotten now but one of his other daughters had a music project a good few years ago now and got tons of press at the time in publications like Pitchfork; now wherever would she get the resources to suddenly appear in Pitchfork with her shitty music project, I for one am gobsmacked.

P.S I was kidding about Ben Stiller playing a young Jerry Stiller, he's actually playing Goulardi!

So just because its spielbergs kid that means she cant have any talent at all thats what youre saying?

Of course having steve as your down will help. What im getting at is if the people are talented then they will last and should keep working regardless of who they are related too.

example :Your way of thinking no one should have given Rob Reiner a chance because of his parent.

I passed absolutely no comment on the quality of their work, their talent or abilities (outside of the musician Spielberg). I was commenting on the people being outraged over what they deem nepotism and what I deem them being able to get shit made because they have serious money behind them.

Confusion abounds. If you're a product of nepotism, you probably have serious money behind you. This is one of its most direct manifestations. Do you believe nepotism is a magical Dune-like process where every member gets their left hand inside a box before being accepted?

Once again "outraged", because you've read "outraged" somewhere on the internet.

What's in the box?

...my sisters brudda.

I for one love nepotism and can't find any reason to criticize someone for casting someone because their parents are famous.

It's basic genetics. If the seed is strong you can't go wrong.

Some Hollywood "nepotism" is over blown. A lot of people seem to get upset at the mere idea of an actor or director's child following in their footsteps which is simply weird. Are you upset that your local plumber's son is now a plumber? Also no one cares if they like the person. No one complains about nepotism with Jamie Lee Curtis because everyone likes her.

The industry sucks and isn't fair, but nepotism is low on the list causing it to be so.

« Outraged », « upset ». Nepotism and social reproduction do slightly blend together, but you can understand why a plumber may have less power than a CEO with millions of dollars in the bank or Steven Spielberg, and yeah: the fact is that a plumber's son becomes a plumber and an actor's son becomes an actor.

Seriously, folks, you should try to be interested in sociology or try to understand why criticizing social structures isn't being outraged or upset or fuming—rolling your eyes at something is mostly exasperation.

If someone wants to finance a film because Spielberg's daughter wrote it, how exactly is that wrong?  They can do what they want with their money.  I just don't get why people care.  I struggle to finance projects, but I don't blame Spielberg's daughter.
