I mean he was pretty candid about his motivations for writing Phantom Thread so no it's not like he keeps everything close to the vest but he would prefer that he not spell everything out for you at the same time.

Yes

There's a difference between a 30 year old hotshot filmmaker high off his influences and coke and a 50 year old veteran filmmaker with a family. I don't think his current "persona" is something coy, sheepish or calculated.  Watching BTS of The Master, seeing how discursive it was, reading first draft of script.. there's no reason to doubt him as dishonest. There's a clear sense of "Gee, why not" that's organic in his filmmaking and lifestyle lately. Brolin confirmed this about Inherent Vice

I'm not sure why wrongright continues to deny the good advance word regarding quality. Yes, it'll flop but so has all his movies and so has every drama this year. Last Duel opened under 5m and Spencer will do like under 2m this weekend. Regarding the rollout and publicity.. there's a trailer playing before big movies, an Alana Haim interview and USA Today photo. No fest is still weird but it's clear PTA just wants to take the film out to locations suitable for film projection. MGM will take care of promotion when the time comes.

Yeah, this exactly.  I remember when he was asked why he shot The Master in 70mm and he replied "because it looked good" and "it's inspired by films of the time period and they are almost all shot 1.33, so I saw it as a box frame" and  everyone kind of thought these were troll answers, but I honestly find those answers more honest than some of the film school mental masturbation answers some filmmakers give.

Paul Dano said on a podcast that PTA makes his films "with his balls" aka more gut feeling than intellectual reasoning, and Brolin spoke similarly about the IV set,  so I believe these answers are fairly honest by Paul.

If there's less hype than usual, maybe it will help the film.

Or it's a sign.

I'm not necessarily clamoring for interviews from him, since it's not like he's honest in any of them anymore. "Gosh, gee, really don't how or why I chose to do that scene like that. Must've just been an accident". Just find it noteworthy that there hasn't been any.

This is so very LastSnowKing lol

What is?

Would you not agree that he stopped being open and revealing a long time ago? Ever since TWBB? I thought most people believed that.

Dude hes been open just in a different way. You CLEARLY are not a fan come on it's pretty obvious now.
We had to deal with  this on Reddit for ages can we not deal with it on here too.

And I know you will say your giving your opinion  and that you are the right but come on pal you're bringing the mood down.

That's better than the official poster (not to reignite that debate).

This must not go unremarked upon.   :bravo:

Can I speculate what she meant by "PTA did again"? Simply made another masterpiece? Or is she referring only to another great role in his movie?
