Okay like last year I'm going to setup a few rules for this.  You DONT have to list 10 films, but you DO have to list your films in order of  how badly you're dying to see them.  Or you can name just one film that you're dying to see the most, but in either case you should EXPLAIN WHY.  It can be brief.  Try to keep it realistic as far as films that can be released by the end of the year.   Here's mine...

1. THERE WILL BE BLOOD
Oh yes, there will be blood.  Because after 5 long years of waiting I believe this now trumps Punch-Drunk Love, The Life Aquatic, Batman Begins, and The Fountain as my absolute Most Anticipated Film Of All Time.  PT Anderson is the only filmmaker who has never disappointed me, so I hope it's a classic.

2. THE DARJEELING LIMITED
This one might be a small stretch since they only just started filming, but hopefully it will come out by December since I really can't imagine a Wes Anderson movie coming out in May or something.  Because The Life Aquatic disappointed me but as my 2nd favorite filmmaker I'm still giving Wes the benefit of the doubt in hoping this works.

3. GRINDHOUSE
Because the trailers look INSANE, so as long as Rodriguez and Tarantino don't get too caught up in making some kind of pastiche, this could easily rule.  Plus it's 2 Horror movies for the price of 1.

4. HOT FUZZ
Because Spaced was great, SOTD was great, and this looks great.  I can't believe it's already been almost 3 years since Shaun of the Dead!  These guys have a really unique comic voice and I hope they don't run out of steam anytime soon.

5. ZODIAC
Because though this actually moves down 1 spot from where it was on last years list, I'm actually anticipating it more!  This only speaks of the quality of films coming out this year.  If we're lucky we'll also have Benjamin Button out by years end.

6. SPIDER-MAN 3
Because it will be an absolute miracle if Raimi can pull it off.  It looks like there are way too many characters and storylines they are trying to squeeze into this film but even though I am extremely skeptical I can't ignore my inner geek.  Fingers crossed.

7. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
Because the Coen Bros. used to be among my favorite filmmakers. Though they have been dormant since their double stinkfest: Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers, hopefully the awfulness of those films has had time to wake up the Bros. Coen.  This will be the film that returns them to their former glory or writes them off forever.

8. RATATOUILLE
Because Pixar's filmography had been completely without rival until this year.  And with the problems this film has been having (replacing the director awfully late in the game), I'm especially anxious to see if they can pull it off.  Hopefully Cars was just a blip and not the beginning of a downward slide.

9. KNOCKED UP
Because I have faith that Apatow will be able to deliver on the big screen.  I was not an especially huge fan of 40 Year Old Virgin, but with Freaks And Geeks and Undeclared on his resume I am still extremely excited about this one.   If he can just nail the right mix of sentiment and comedy he could make a classic.

10. SMOKIN' ACES / BLACK SNAKE MOAN / STARDUST / HARRY POTTER & THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX / UNTITLED NOAH BAUMBACH PROJECT / BE KIND, REWIND / SWEENEY TODD / THE ARGENTINE / BLACK BOOK / 300
Because it looks like a cross between Domino and Snatch (and I liked those movies!) / Because Hustle And Flow showed promise and the premise is insane / Because Layer Cake showed promise and the premise is Princess Bride / Because the last two were the best / Because Squid and the Whale was better than The Life Aquatic / Because Science Of Sleep disappointed the hell out of me but Eternal Sunshine is still my favorite film since Eternal Sunshine / Because I cannot let Tim Burton go even though its been a decade of disappointment, and a musical with Ed Scissorhands and Borat sounds incredible / Because I will see anything Soderbergh does and he works fast / Because I want to love Paul Verhoeven again/ Because it looks visually stunning though I am worried about its Gladiator genre trappings
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Very Similar to Mod:

1. There Will Be Blood: this is obvious, probably #1 on most of those on this board's list.  Mostly because the screenplay gave no clue how this movie was going to play.  I expect either brilliance or a total creative meltdown (and will accept nothing in between).

2. Zodiac - I need to see some good murder... I'm sick of most of the murder we've witnessed lately on film and Fincher is great at it.

3. Ratatouille - Patton and Pixar!!!

4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix- this is (I believe) the first franchise to start terrible then get good and I'm dying to see how they handle the dark direction it's heading in.

5. Grindhouse - I know it's hype incarnate, but I've seen too much of this being shot around town to miss it.

6. Hott Fuzz - I don't think this CAN be as good as Shawn of the Dead, but I'm hoping it will come close.

7. Darjeeling Limited - I just want to see if Wes ignores his mistakes and digs his grave even deeper (Possibly resulting in a BETTER movie than Life Aquatic) or if he learns from them and goes a different direction.

8. Spiderman 3 - Part of me wants this to be great, but I don't think it will be so mostly I just want Sam Raimi to realize it's time to move on.

9. No Country for Old Men - I have a bad feeling about it, but if this one sucks, at least I can write off the Coens and not have to continue to be disapointed.

10. Whatever next year's Brick is.

I already saw: 300, Black Book, Smokin Aces, and Knocked up... Knocked up is probably the only one I'll see again.

This is ridiculous. All this talk of writing them off. This movie is going to fucking rule.

1. INLAND EMPIRE
For some of you lucky bastards this is 2006, but for the rest is 2007 and in Mexico who knows when will be released if it ever is released; Lynch along with Malick are the reason too keep breathing so I guess that's enough to let you know how much I anticipate this.

2. There will be blood
I love all of his movies, I have a feeling this has a big chance to be way better than PDL (and I liked it a lot), DDL will be awesome as usual.

3. Bee Movie
Been a Seinfan for many years, hope it delivers.

4. Zodiac
Love love love Fincher's films, and the thing that excites me most is that apparently will be different (style wise) from his previous flims.

5. Bourne Ultimatum
The previous two have been really great and there's no reason this one will be any different, I crave for good, well thought action flims.

6. Spider-Man 3
Modage might have a point in that there seems to be too many storylines and characters but...if the studio let Raimi release his cut no matter how long it is, 3 will be awesome.

7. Ocean's 13
Because 11 was great and almost everybody involved agrees that 12 wasn't very good, I anticipate this one.

8. Sunshine
In my book Danny Boyle hasn't made a bad film yet, although I'm not too crazy about Life less ordinary, I'm eager to see Danny Boyle in space.

9. Grindhouse
I'm not a horror fan really but I think this spot belongs to the Tarantinez team.

10. Southland Tales / The Golden Age / Beowulf / Transformers
Kelly's next flick, I'm there / Because this will be better than Elizabeth / I love Zemeckis / I've never liked a Bay flim but that trailer kind of sold me.

last days of gerry the elephant

1. THE DARJEELING LIMITED
Because I didn't mind Life Aquatic like the rest of you & Wes Anderson is still as fresh as he was when he made Bottle Rocket.

2. THERE WILL BE BLOOD
PTA. This doesn't look like Punch-Drunk Love at all, but I have a feeling I will be impressed just like after watching any of his films for the first time.

3. GRINDHOUSE
Tarantino & Rodriguez finally to collaborate officially. And because I think I'm anticipating the DVD release for this more... The packaging has got to be cool as hell.

That is all...

You mean a shitty bare-bones version with a never fulfilled promise of a decent release in the future?

When I think twice about it now, you're probably right. But looking at the Sin City DVD particularly gave me hope that we'd get something in the same league. There at least better be another cooking school episode...

Where is that Kill Bill package anyways!?

hopefully learning from last years list...

1.  Snow Angels - DGG
2.  There Will Be Blood - PTA
3.  Funny Games - Cache
4.  No Country For Old Men - willing to forget for  fink and fargo.
5.  Darjeeling Limited - cos I learned to stop worrying and start loving wes anderson.

Gold Trumpet

There Will Be Blood - There is no doubt that P.T. Anderson may be one of the most talented directors out there, but Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love did not age well for me. Boogie Nights still stands tall but I think many agree that this film may be his chance to really make a great film. I think his maturation process will show with good results this year. Yea, this forum is still a quasi fan boy and Magnolia seems heralded just for what it meant to a lot of people at the beginning of their film interest, but There Will Be Blood has the scope and determination to be something special.

Snow Angels - David Gordon Green is still trying to make a successful follow up to George Washington, as far as I'm concerned. All of his projects seem perfectly mindful to be great stuff, but they aren't getting made and his last two films have been light affairs only. He is able to pull off homages to 70s cinematography, but he needs to bring all the resources together to make a competent film. I know nothing about Snow Angels but i'm still hopefully following his career.

Others, including works by the Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson and David Fincher, I'm just trying to avvoid attention to because I hate to draw up my previous ideas about them in relation to their new work. I tried this for Grindhouse, but it's just way too hard to ignore the nerd fest already going on so I'm going into that one already annoyed, but if it is good, I'll say so.

1. THERE WILL BE BLOOD
No originality coming from this side, but how could there be any? Since he seems incapable to make something even closer to a bad movie, and Day Lewis is in it, well, he´s the man. I wanna point out, however, that my interest in film had long passed its initial phase when Magnolia came out. I was abig PTA fan because of Boogie Nights, and to me Magnolia it's still pretty amazing. I don't think I hold it high because of some sentimental reason. The film is great on it's own.

2. INLAND EMPIRE
Gotta go with the mexican feeling. Lynch is always exciting, and since this was a somewhat controversial movie, not that highly praised, I can't wait to see it for myself.

3. ZODIAC
I know I'm in the minority, but personally, I enjoy SEVEN mor ethan FIGHT CLUB (although the latter is more ambitious and maybe even a more interesting film), so Fincher going back to serial killer stuff with Downey Jr. at an almost three hour running time seems like the serial killer movie we've all been waiting for, something to for once and all leave the 90's silence of the lambs trend behind.

4. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
Because of the Coens, and as far as I'm concerned, they can make at least six more movies that "suck" like INTOLERABLE CRUELTY and THE LADYKILLERS before I could "write them off"...insane.

5. EASTERN PROMISES
I'm assuming this is gonna be out in 2007. Cronenberg gets better with every movie, so that's that. Plus, Viggo and Naomi Watts.

6. LA PIEL QUE HABITO
I don't think VOLVER is a masterpiece, but it is for sure damn fine and a prime exampe of a genius at work, so Almodovar reteaming with Penelope in a mostly dark story (as opposed to the semi sweetness of VOLVER, which turned me off) is something I have high hopes for.

7. THE DARJEETING LIMITED
I really like Wes and I'm hoping he actually has something very cool coming up on this one...

8. SNOW ANGELS
Agree with GT here, expecting the great follow up to GEORGE WASHINGTON, which totally blew me away..

that's it for now.
