yes, i stumbled upon it a couple nights ago on some movie channel and really fell in love with it again. i'm also really looking forward to the unrated edition. connie nielsen is great in it.

has anybody ever noticed the gay subtext of this film? they mention it in the freddy encyclopedia bonus disc, how all these gay men's magazines reviewed the movie saying it's all about a boy coming out of the closet. i rewatched it the other day, and i can't say i disagree. jesse is the gay kid, freddy represents jesse's homosexuality - the evil demon that he's not allowed to talk about for fear they'll think he's crazy. in this movie, there are several scenes taking place in the boys locker room and lots of scenes with guys not wearing shirts (unlike typical horror flicks which show lots of female chest). during one scene, jesse even goes to a leather bar where he runs into his gym teacher who, as punishment, makes jesse take laps. in the gym showers, freddy possesses jesse's body, ties the gym teacher up, and kills him. symbolically, i suppose murder represents manlove. anyway, when jesse is finally about to get some action with a girl at a party, he begins to change into freddy and can't perform, so he leaves her high and dry. instead, jesse goes to his hunky friend's house and says he has to sleep in this guy's room b/c he is afraid of himself. of course, jesse turns into freddy and "kills" his friend.

it all adds up... except for the end, where freddy takes over completely and just kills EVERYBODY in town, except for jesse's girlfriend, who drives the demon out of jesse's body. i have no idea what that would represent. possibly, lisa (the "girlfriend") is really just a postive female character that helps jesse realize that freddy (jesse's homosexuality) is not this horrible affliction - jesse just had to come to terms with it. or the theory is complete bullshit and everybody involved in the film just accidentally gave the movie these homoerotic undertones. whatever...

i came up with an analysis that proves child's play is a communist propoganda movie, if anybody would like to hear that one...
