Despite the director, the combo of Adam Sandler and Chris Rock might make for a possible--who'da thunk it--hilarity.

While you can't improve upon perfection, you can improve upon the merely above-average.

In the original Longest Yard, Burt Reynolds plays Paul Crew, who ends up getting 30 or so years tacked on for his original sentence for pissing off the warden.  So the 2005 version could have have been a sequel rather than a remake, with Reynolds continuing his portrayal of Crew 3 decades later, and Sandler portraying a pro quarterback who repeats Crew's mistakes.

Its sad when non-Adam Sandler fans are hoping he returns to the spirit of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. It just speaks for how awful his films are these days.

Seriously!  Did you ever see Punch Drunk Love?  God, it was horrible!

That's the one non fans can claim as their own.

I'm sure the 2005 version will cop out and have an upbeat ending, unlike the grittier 1974 original.  This is, after all, a summer comedy from the folks who brought you Anger Management.

what, ruining one ending wasn't enough for you?  jeez, how much bigger an asshole can you be?

Oh it will get the typical Sandler treatment for sure.
It ends on the field after a brutal fight with the players and the guards. Rock has snuck his way into the guard tower where he sounds the alarm to stop the brawl and shouts over the loud speaker "Listen up motherfuckers, my man has somethin' to say!" A banged up Sandler makes his way to where his longtime hero and coach, Reynolds lays beaten to a pulp. He stares long and hard at his mentor where they exchange cheesy, unfunny dialogue, something along the lines of: REYNOLDS: What happened? SANDLER: I don't know, I saved the day I guess. Then a Vietnamese prison bitch cameo'd by Rob S. shouts out "You Can Do EET!" Sandler confesses his love to Reynolds, they embrace, Rock says "my nigga" everyone is in tears including the guards (probably a close up on one of the guards over doing the crying comeo'd by Kevin Nealand no doubt) and the rest writes itself.

Thanks POZER, now I don't actually have to see the film.

So the inmates are the good guys, right?
And the prison wardens are the bad guys, right?

Somehow I doubt they're going to make humorous subplots out of the convicts' pasts as murderers and rapists. They'll probably all be innocent or just convicted for a smaller, less offensive crimes.

Eh, it's an Adam Sandler movie, so maybe I'm being a bit too sensitive. It's just escapist fantasy (if you'll pardon the pun)...

and Sheldon Turner as well as Tim Herlihy as the screenwriters on this.
Sheldon has written the new Amityville Horror film coming out and Tim Herlihy has worked on such sandler classics as Mr. Deeds, Little Nicky, Big daddy, the waterboy, the wedding singer, as well as Happy Gilmore and Billy madison.
