Good album, but man, I haven't been able to listen to it for a while since... the incident.

The incident being when I was driving with my friends and said, "Hey, wanna hear a really creepy song?" and then I played "Slide" really loudly, and got creeped out myself.  I had heard it several times before, but something about playing it really loud made it seep into my bones.  It was also very dark and quite foggy out.  My friend jokingly said, "What if there was a guy in an orange jacket hitchhiking on the side of the road right now?"  That image alone freaked me out.

I've never really been the same since.
I listened to this album again (just finishing it up now, actually) for the first time since... the incident.  I was trying to conquer my fear of that song.  But damn.  I mean... it's not that bad.  But I did get goosebumps and had to focus on not getting too affected.  The line "and her veins are all showing" is the one the gets me mainly.  I find the whole song very visceral.  I can see it all, which is why it affects me so much.  I have to say that it's a very good song that certainly does what it tries to do.

The rest of the album doesn't freak me out though.  It's a very good album.  Quite an emotional experience for me when I listen to it.

Yeah, that song is pretty creepy.  They can just accomplish everything perfectly.  It's really a great album.  I bought it a few days ago and have been listening to it almost non-stop.  I love it.

I wish I hadn't missed this... I was really hoping for a creepy song, but got "boring" instead.

Two Lane Blacktop

The New Pornographers Twin Cinema (already pictured upthread)

It's different, and not so immediately "power-pop-joy-explosion" as the first two, but I'm still digging it.  Favorite song so far (after about four listens):  "The Bleeding Heart Show."

Carl Newman's solo album took awhile to grow on me, too, and I came to like it more than any of the New Pornographers stuff, so who knows this may slowly become my favorite N.P. album.  Or not.  Who knows.

Obviously what you are doing right now is called (in my upcoming book of psychology at least) validation. I think it's a normal thing to do. People will reply, say anything, and then you're gonna do what you were subconsciently thinking of doing all along.

Sometimes I just bust out the old CD's I've outgrown for nostalgia... and skip most of the tracks.
