Awwww... the Now Playing thread temporarily becomes the Happy Birthday, Godardian thread.    :P  You're all very kind.

I'm old, though.  :(
""Money doesn't come into it. It never has. I do what I do because it's all that I am." - Morrissey

"Lacan stressed more and more in his work the power and organizing principle of the symbolic, understood as the networks, social, cultural, and linguistic, into which a child is born. These precede the birth of a child, which is why Lacan can say that language is there from before the actual moment of birth. It is there in the social structures which are at play in the family and, of course, in the ideals, goals, and histories of the parents. This world of language can hardly be grasped by the newborn and yet it will act on the whole of the child's existence."

NEON MERCURY

Quote from: godardianThere are much worse things to be going through than a Lou Reed phase, Neon Mercury... just make sure you don't miss Transformer or Berlin!!

oh yes!! transformer and berlin are classic......berlin s actually my favorite solo reed

by the way..Happy Birthday..... :)

right now i m listening to:

..these lyrics are phucking incredible

The bias of the father runs on through the son
And leaves him bothered and bewildered
The drugs in his veins only cause him to spit
At the face staring back in the mirror

How can he tell a good act from the bad
He can't even remember his name
How can he do what needs to be done
When he's a follower not a leader

The sickness of the mother runs on through the girl
Leaving her small and helpless
Liquor files through her brain with the force of a gun
Leaving her running in circles

How can she tell a good act from the bad
When she's flat on her back in her room
How can she do what needs to be done
When she's a coward and a bleeder

The man if he marries will batter his child
And have endless excuses
The woman sadly will do much the same
Thinking that it's right and it's proper

Better than their mommy or their daddy did
Better than the childhood they suffered
The truth is they're happier when they're in pain
In fact, that's why they got married

SoNowThen

Those who say that the totalitarian state of the Soviet Union was not "real" Marxism also cannot admit that one simple feature of Marxism makes totalitarianism necessary:  the rejection of civil society. Since civil society is the sphere of private activity, its abolition and replacement by political society means that nothing private remains. That is already the essence of totalitarianism; and the moralistic practice of the trendy Left, which regards everything as political and sometimes reveals its hostility to free speech, does nothing to contradict this implication.

When those who hated capital and consumption (and Jews) in the 20th century murdered some hundred million people, and the poster children for the struggle against international capitalism and America are now fanatical Islamic terrorists, this puts recent enthusiasts in an awkward position. Most of them are too dense and shameless to appreciate it, and far too many are taken in by the moralistic and paternalistic rhetoric of the Left.

hohoho, cool,  have you heard Ian Brown solo???
context, context, context.

SoNowThen

Very small bits and pieces. If I had to listen to any Roses solo work, it'd probably be Squire's. Apparently he sings on his new one. I haven't heard it....

Why, is Brown's stuff any good?

Yes. I've just heard two out of his four albums,  Unfinished Monkey Business (debut)  and Music Of The Spheres.  I like him better solo than with the Stone Roses, in fact. he also has two collaborations with UNKLE,  'Be There' and 'Reign'.

The second Stone Roses? Meh. Total anticlimax. I can't listen to it; did they try to make it leaden, or was it just a horrible accident? I'll take bits of the first one and leave the rest. As for the solo stuff, might we not just as well be listening to *shudder* Cast? :)  Poor old Britpop had a very artistically ignoble falling off after its prime, and the victims are everywhere.

Me:

The new single.
