i saw this at sundance this past year and it was pretty funny. nothing hilarious really, but it keeps you entertained. the beginning is actually really strong and promising and then it just sort of loses itself.. dylan baker is pretty great, like always, but the guy who plays the asshole neighbor/head of the anti-zombie unit is awesome. so funny. the last thing i remember seeing him in was the first mission: impossible when tom cruise tells him something along the lines of, "you've never seen me very upset...". tim blake nelson's also pretty funny but his bit gets old after a few scenes. all in all, very enjoyable stuff. check it out.

  For me, this movie clicked.  I mean I was just grinning straight through.  Sheer happenstance brought this to me right after I watched Heavy Petting (89) and what a great complimentary film.  I liked it because it stuck to its zombie universe and that made it feel like it was never going over the top, and it didn't have characters of substance but it did have characters who changed and had depth.

Basically this beast had a shitload of things I like, didn't do too much wrong, and played out with a straight face.  It was a personal favorite of the year.

the dvd is delayed here but i'm excited. it's the biggest movie someone from my uni has writ/dir'd so far i think.

Finally, a horror-comedy (since Shaun of the Dead) that deserves the buzz it got!  I'm zombied out but this one was pretty good.  It reminded me of Tim Burton's Frankenweenie more than anything else.  I was expecting the joke to get boring but the performances filled in the gaps when the story lulled.  The actors' commitment to the world makes it; no winks or nods to be seen.  Billy Connolly in particular did a great job.

Not much else to say.  It was just a good time and now, I think I can stop watching zombie movies.
