Release Date: March 23rd, 2012 (wide)

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Dayo Okeniyi, Amandla Stenberg

Premise: Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Thank god she's from District 12, those prawns in District 9 really piss me off.

Um, that actually looks good.

I know I'm really running the risk of being called "grumpy" here, but what makes this look good?  To me, it looks like a really uncreative Sci-Fi story just ripped-off from different sources meshed into one uncreative movie with visuals ripped off from different sources... and not in a Tarantino kind of way.

I'll probably see it, but that's because I watch bad sci-fi movies.

I mean I wasn't blown away but it looks surprisingly dark and substantive. I haven't read the books but the premise sounds intriguing, especially if you're a fan of the dystopian genre as I am.

I would prefer to watch a spinoff starring Wes Bentley's beard and Woody Harrelson's wig, but if that continues not to exist, this will suffice in its place.

i would watch jennifer lawrence in anything so they can shut the hell up and take my money.. even though that trailer, and presumably the movie, makes absolutely no sense.

and was that lenny kravitz at the end nodding his head? haha man that dude and his rock star acting.

dumb nods like that + bentley beard + woody wig = bad movie i might like.

I've heard a review of the book, and the story sounds pretty good (although derivative). As for it making sense, it's a dystopian future, so anything is fair game.

I actually just read the book, because my fiancee talked me into it, and it's surprisingly great.  Yeah, it's young-adult lit, but more in the vein of Gary Paulsen than Stephenie Meyer.  As retarded a name as she may have, Katniss Everdeen is an extremely compelling character, sort of a dystopian future version of Mattie Ross, and Jennifer Lawrence is the only actress in the world who should have even been considered to play her.  I may or may not bother to read the second and third books, but I'll happily watch all the movies.  Because the movies won't be in first-person present-tense, which, even though I liked the book, never stopped driving me nuts.

I went to the dentist earlier this week and you know how the assistants do your teeth cleaning while your actual dentist is who knows where? Probably writing dentist fan fiction in the back. Well, this stupid assistant wouldn't shut up about how she really likes young teen literature and was super duper excited for this movie. She told me all about it and I don't remember any of it. Why do they always talk to you when you can't talk back? I would have said I don't give a shit. Stop talking to me. Also, they overbooked that time slot so I had to sit in a child's dentist chair that I didn't fit in and it was very uncomfortable. I played it cool, but if she looked closely she would definitely see my knuckles bright red from grasping onto the bottom corner of the seat for dear life so I didn't fall out and look like a dumbass.  :yabbse-angry:
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

^ Did you change your av specially for that comment, Reelist? Cos it worked.
He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

No. Did you change your av specifically to get Midnight in Paris to win? That's gonna work..

Anyways, Hunger Games. Who saw it?

The movie was good.  Not great, but good.  A little rushed.  Lost a lot of subtlety in the adaptation.  Good cast, though.
