No thread for this -- I'd heard a lot about it all year long, but could never find it. Haven't watched it yet but it's available to stream instantly on Netflix as of today.

I don't think I'm going to watch because I read that it has some very graphic scenes of animal cruelty which I can't really deal with.  :yabbse-angry:

Has anyone else seen it? How graphic are the animal cruelty scenes?

It's awesome and amazing.

The animal cruelty isn't problematic. If you saw Drag Me To Hell, it's on par with the cat death in that.

classical gas

yea, it's not that bad.  you don't really see the act itself.  just a before and after, which is brief.

I saw it.  It's good but I think it's been overpraised.  Some of it is truly incredible but I ultimately have mixed feelings. I think the trailer spoiled me.  It was just too good.  Still, as I write this all I can really think to say is SEE IT.  I'd love to go into more detail with my discussion but I think I need to see it again before I can say anything for sure.

The animal cruelty is brief and important to the movie.  I have faith you can get through it, Stefen.

I recommended this to my mom and now she's banned me from recommending her movies.  :yabbse-angry:

Finally watched it. Thought it was really great and hilarious. What an odd, odd film. Halfway through it I felt kind of bad for liking it as much as I did. I started thinking if there was something wrong with me, but then came to the conclusion that it wasn't the incest, lesbianism, violence or just general wtfness of the film that I enjoyed, but just challenging film in general. I really like films that push the boundaries and buttons and this one certainly does.

Oh, and the animal cruelty was non-existent. It wasn't real like I had been led to believe. People had told me there was animal cruelty, but I was under the impression it was REAL like the water buffalo scene in Apocalypse Now or in Japon. I just can't deal with REAL animal cruelty. I could watch fake animal cruelty all day long.

SPOILERS
After the brother bangs his sister and she starts reciting that part from Rocky, I about died laughing. Was that wrong? That was supposed to be funny, right?

Oh, and when the dad ties the videotape to his hand and then starts beating his daughter with it? HILARIOUS.
