I. SPIT. ON. THIS. REMAKE.

did you see it? it's actually not bad at all and it was made by big fans of the original. they did a great job with it.

i'm sure it's the Let Me In of torture porn.

i just hate torture porn. and while the original film has its defenders in the alt feminist circles (you're not one of those are you kal?), there is not going to be anyone these days looking at it from that angle. it's a shitty defense at best, when the truth is that this film was remade because right now is the PERFECT time to appeal to sickos the world over. if anything the original was ahead of its time not in gender politics but in its appeal to people who like their violence and rape in extreme doses.

i don't hate this because it's a remake, i'm just uncomfortable with the idea that anyone could claim to be a "big fan" of movies like this. today it seems that everyone is, and it's always for juvenile "yeah FUCKING SLAP THAT BITCH OOOOH SHIT YEAH CUT HIS BALLS OFF" reasons that make me ashamed to be part of this generation. there's just got to be something wrong with someone if they genuinely enjoy watching and rewatching these films.

it's why Clockwork Orange was such a misfire and why i distrust any non-teenager who still lists that as their favourite film.

Well, if you must know I did not see the original. I'm not interested in these type of movies at all. In fact, I'm not a fan of horror movies in general either. I was told I should see it during Fantastic Fest and I did, and enjoyed it just cause its a pretty good movie. I don't expect to see similar movies anytime soon, and have no interest in watching the original really, but I do think that whoever liked the original and likes movies like this, should for sure watch.

In his own way, P captures basically how I feel about this remake (and a lot of the movies at Fantastic Fest), the original kind of had a point (barely) and while enjoyable the first time, I don't get the desire to see it more than once and the only reason this was made was to make both remake and torture-porn money.

I didn't see this remake though, so maybe it's good.

I DID see Bedeviled at Fantastic Fest, which is a similar movie and it made me sick to my stomach watching it... People were cheering during the revenge slaughter at the end, I just wanted the movie to end so I could relax.  At least Bedeviled had some decent acting and took its time before the murder began.

Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Honestly, I barely remember the original.  I was young when I saw it and hadn't seen a million other movies like it yet.
