Premise: Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria.

I loved this movie, by the way.  Awful effects, awful 3D, but a perfect bigger-budget homage to the movies I used to watch on the USA network in the middle of the day on weekends when I didn't have anything better to do.  Adam Scott needs to be a big star, and soon.  Kelly Brook is both British and hot, so double whammy there.  The kid who played the main character reminded me of an even blander Justin Bartha, which doesn't seem like a good thing, but it's sort of a tradition in these kinds of movies for the protagonist to be the least interesting character in the film.  Plus, several of our generation's finest porn stars get killed off in delightfully creative ways.  I would recommend this movie to people who enjoy fun, and not recommend it to people who are party poopers.

Yeah, saw this last night.  Took my normal "Bad Movie Night" crew on a field trip and boy did this ever give me exactly what I wanted!

This is the type of movie that deserves 3D right now.  It's stupid and only worth one or two viewings and will probably die on video.  Loaded with tits and murder.

Marquee?

I kinda want to see this but I'm not sure I want to pay like $19 to see it.  If it came out in October that'd prob put me over the edge but I might just wait to rent it.  Is the 3D essential to it's enjoyment?
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

The 3D is generally pretty sloppy and often just fails entirely, but there is one underwater sequence (RK knows the one I'm talking about) that just about makes it worth existing.

I'd add that the thing that makes it better in theaters is that the 3D is clearly in on the joke.  It's full of ridiculous reasons to use 3D.  I'm sure it would still be funny (maybe funnier) when watching in 2D, but not as fun.

There, that's better.

So, Cameron doesn't like this movie (big surprise) and the director is mad about it:

Mark Canton Bites Back At Jim Cameron For Filleting 'Piranha 3D'

I think Canton doesn't get what Cameron is saying (that the 3D in Piranha sucks... it does) and just wants to start a fight to attract attention for the movie.  He should realize that A: Cameron doesn't have a sense of humor so it's no surprise he wouldn't like this movie and B: He probably DID see the movie because all he cares about in life is 3D so he studies it so he should drop that as his main comeback.

Just, you know, hypothetically speaking.
"As a matter of fact I only work with the feeling of something magical, something seemingly significant. And to keep it magical I don't want to know the story involved, I just want the hypnotic effect of it somehow seeming significant without knowing why." - Len Lye

This was fun! A great series of kills. Wanna know what happens when hair gets caught in propellers? It's here. What happens to silicon boobs after the victim is completely eaten? Look no futher. Wanna see Eli Roth get his? This is for you. Huge homage to Jaws (hence the casting of Dreyfuss). It has its tongue in its cheek and it knows it, so most of the 3D gags play towards the gimmick and towards us, the audience (One word: Penis!).

It's not like I'm giving away Rosebud.  :yabbse-undecided:

Pubrick

no but you give away stuff that is more fun if you weren't expecting it.

for example i had no idea about eli roth and what happens to him.

but i saw it before reading your post and thus got maximum enjoyment out of it.

Yeah, not trying to ruin your fun or enthusiasm, Mac.
I just find that in this kind of movie, giving away the kills is like hearing the punchline of a joke before you get the rest.
