i went from not having heard of this film or filmmaker to blind-buying criterion's blu-ray of it.  without really being able to articulate why, this movie completely blew me away.  something about the performances, the look and tone, the overwhelming humanism... it's been a while since i've been completely at the mercy of a film by its end.  the most moving period film i've seen since the new world.  a more critical second viewing is in order but based on my first impression, this is a masterpiece.

anyone else see it?

I have it in my instant queue. Maybe I'll just have the blu-ray shipped instead?
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

it's gorgeously shot and the blu-ray looks great.  some variant grain levels but otherwise as great as any of criterion's blus.
