The Town
Release Date: September 17th, 2010
Starring: Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Pete Postlethwait, Chris Cooper
Directed by: Ben Affleck

Trailer here.

Gone Baby Gone was fantastic, and showed that Ben Affleck has potential as a director that he never had as an actor.  He's trying both at the same time in this one, and while his acting looks to be just as passable as usual, it definitely gives the impression that Gone Baby Gone wasn't just a one-off fluke.  The trailer gives it a whiff of Mann/Nolan copycattery, but damned if it doesn't look like a good copy.  It's official; this guy's a real director.  I hadn't even heard about this movie until today, and now I'm all excited for it.

This looks great, only problem is that they give all the shit away in the trailer.

Stefen

Way to ruin a potentially really great film by giving everything away. Ugh. Still looks really good, but come on. Maybe it has more going for it that it didn't show. I hope so. It looks really good.

I've always liked Affleck because he never seemed to take himself too seriously.

Well, after seeing it, the trailer reveals are not so bad. I mean, you pretty much know all that stuff from the get go anyhow. I'm not going to say that is a great movie, but I am impressed with Ben Affleck once again. Movie is solid, Afflecks directing is pretty good, and you can't go wrong with Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner.

JG

its pretty ridiculous and overwrought, but in a good way.

Stefen

It's really good, but it's not great. It's a bit over the top, but there are some really cool parts and the acting is stellar. I think Affleck is going to be a great filmmaker, but it's going to take a few more films. He could have made this really fast paced and MTV'ish, but he allows the actors to work and really takes his time with a lot of scenes which is appreciated.

I liked it a lot.  I like shit that makes boston look so dangerous and turns all the meatheads into these reasonably existential criminals.  it's kinda how I would wanna remember Boston except you know, it's not true.  Slaine - the getaway driver, was my boss at a college mailroom when I was in school.  he always wanted to be a hiphop star and look at him now.  sometimes things do work out.
I thought the scene around Fenway was pretty iconic.  There really hasn't been an action film set in Boston - not in the same way you have a million car chases through San Francisco or Chicago or Paris or any number of non-NYC/ LA cities that turn all dangerous and shit, this movie knocks out a few very very crowded and famous spots in Boston.  Pretty cool.  Can't wait to see Cambridge again in the Social Network.

Whenever I see a quote in an ad proclaiming that a movie is a mish-mash of two other great movies so if you liked them, you should go see this one ( "It's Heat meets the Departed" ) it really just discredits the whole thing for me. Oh, so it can't stand on it's own? You have to draw me in by comparing it to two other movies I liked? Then it's mediocre at best and I'll see it on someone else's dime.

pete

so by the same dogma you'll see any film the ad in the paper proclaims as "utterly original" and "nothing like it"?

I just saw it. It's a little tiny bit like Heat and not really anything at all like The Departed. It's good. Actually more Eastwood than Mann. Very measured, very assured.  Blake Lively's breasts are odd, but fascinatingly so.

I love Blake Livelys boobs!

They sit on her chest weird.  It also looks like she had the doctor go too big from what she had originally, so everything's stretched super taut; they look like you could bounce pennies off them.

That said, I would knock over my grandmother for the chance to stand in line to bounce pennies off them.

They do look weird there. White trash boobs.

I saw some pics of her in a bikini and they were glorious. I want to believe they're real.

Okay, then.  Who am I to crush a young man's romantic idealism?

They're not supposed to be real if I am to follow the information I got from gravity. They still look hot cause they're not too big though, so who cares!
