true, i do dig his candid nature though, especially when regarding his own work. i think that "i'm not a visual director" thing became a crutch. almost like he wouldn't branch out cuz he pigeon held himself.

He got Vilmos Zsigmond to shoot Jersey Girl, but IIRC it didn't look much different from Smith's other films.

haha that is true. Zsigmond did shoot JG and it still looked like crap.

30 minute increments are all you need of Tracy Morgan's humor.

The audience ate it up though...

I felt my intelligence slowly draining so I left an hour in.

It's funny, but all the wannabee film critics I know at my school are also huge Kevin Smith fans. I'm friends with them on facebook so their reaction has been interesting because they know this is a sell out work for Smith since he didn't write it and they start out very critical in their commentary, but halfway through their reviews they are admitting they still really liked the movie but just didn't love it.

I'm so happy I stopped wanting a job that makes you watch every movie in theaters. I'm also happy I don't comment on anything they say ever.

It had funny moments, but overall it felt like a collage of disparate elements, some of which worked, many of which didn't.  The Pollak/Brody duo was an interesting attempt at two characters who pretty much spoke in nothing but cop-movie-cliche dialogue.  Seann William Scott was always funny.  The movie as a whole was always almost as funny as it should have been.

The flow within the scenes and between the scenes was off.  I couldn't quite put my finger on it.  It just ungracefully lurches from one scene to the next.  The "Editing by Kevin Smith" credit helped explain that.

Long story short, I paid $10 to see a mediocre movie.

Looks like Tracy Morgan is going to shoot Kevin Smith, and Kevin Smith is all like, "Don't shoot me!"

wow, i had no idea Kevin Smith was attached to this until opening this thread today.

that Kevin Smith thing on the cover is a joke, right? in the post-Photoshop world i really don't know what to believe any more.
