Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Holy shit, it's Young William from Almost Famous! Excellent.

The fake Ronald Chevalier stuff on the web had me intrigued, but this trailer looks really wonderful. The mixture of a fantasy world with another silly real world seems like a good match for Hess. And Sam Rockwell's John Watersish tranny has me sold. Any idea when this is getting released?
WWPTAD?

Seeing this at Fantastic Fest.  Not watching trailer (for now)

Saw it last night.

I was a little disappointed in it for not living up to its potential, but it doesn't really try to be anything other than a kind of shallow series of funny moments.

A lot of those moments made me laugh out loud.  Clements is really good in this.  Almost everything he does is funny and the idea of showing the differences between the two authors' books plays out really well.  What bored me was the same stuff that bored me in Nacho Libre... the extremely juvenile poop, puke, fart jokes and characters stuck in funny faces for the entire movie.

Oh, and I walked right by Sam Rockwell as he did a little excited dance and said "alright, let's give it to 'em, let's do it".

Hess had the underground hit with Napoleon Dynamite and then a partnership with Nickelodeon for Nacho Libre.......what happened with this one? From what I've read it almost seems like it will almost be a direct to DVD thing, with only a few theatrical screenings.

I figured at least one person on here would have seen a preview screening or something. I think we had multi-page discussions on those two films.
I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away.

Well you're right in your suspicions about the preview screening, as there's a thread on the film already and RK gave it a review.

I think ghostboy also saw it but hasn't reviewed it yet.

I missed those. I knew it just opened officially recently - that thread wasn't even on page 1 with no replies since Sept (and no Search function) so I didn't think there was one.

I saw it and actually really liked it (not a Napoleon fan). It's so out there, there's no way this could ever be a crossover hit, but I think the world is better for its existence. It's a little bit boring and a little bit lazy, but still, I want to give this movie a hug and say "it's okay, you made two cents at the box office, but I like you anyway."
