Bryce Dallas Howard has joined the cast of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," the third installment in Summit Entertainment's vampire franchise. She replaces Rachelle Lefevre as the character of Victoria.

Lefevre originated the role in "Twilight" and appears in the upcoming sequel "New Moon," but Summit says scheduling conflicts forced her to leave the picture.

Pic starts shooting in Vancouver in August under the direction of David Slade. "Eclipse" has a release date of June 30, 2010.

"We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise," said Erik Feig, Summit's president of worldwide production and acquisitions. "Rachelle brought Victoria to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role."

Howard most recently appeared in "Terminator Salvation." Her credits include "Spider-Man 3," "Lady in the Water" and "The Village."

David Slade is a filmmaker who I feel has tons of potential if he can get the right script but Bryce Dallas Howard picks shitty scripts so this will probably look great but be awful. Not surprising.

I disagree about David Slade.  I think his choice of bad scripts is indicative of his habit of making bad choices about everything.  All he has to offer is slick, and other filmmakers do slick better.

I think Bryce Dallas Howard has made choices to work with interesting filmmakers and/or high-profile projects and has just had the bad luck of being in these filmmakers' bombs.

I don't know anything about Twilight but this movie promises to be terrible.

I liked the first three quarters of 30 Days of Night. Hard Candy was pretty, but pretty fucking terrible. And aside from Patrick Wilson, really had no redeeming qualities. I think Slade has more potential than someone like Zack Snyder who's sole intention seems to be to make cool looking films for the Maxim and UFC generation.

I'm sure this will be pretty as well but will be really, really bad.

Has anyone here even read these books?
