I couldn't find a thread for this marvelous film
Petulia is richard Lester's finest film. It has everything you would want in a picture set in the late 60's. I was released in 1968. It has a cameo by my honey janis joplin in the beginning. An underrated performance by George C. Scott and Julie Christie really knocks it out of the park as Petulia, a schizophrenic with a intense lonely heart. George C Scott's Archie, a san francisco doctor becomes involved with her and its a tremulous scary relationship at best. See this film.
The Beatles know Jesus Christ has returned to Earth and is in Los Angeles.

Those are fighting words to me, but I can't argue you right now because my memory of Petulia is that it was adventurous and winsome storytelling, but Lester couldn't raise the story above its basic melodramatic nature. I can't say anything more because my memory is very foggy, but I left the screening on a very average displacement for the film.

I just say, in case you haven't seen the movies, to watch The Knack and How To Get It or How I Won the War. Two of the best comedies in film.

Maybe I should have rephrased that, its my favorite Richard Lester film I've seen so far. I really liked 'the knack'.

No need for rephrasement. My challenge was light, but ultimately self mocking because I too haven't seen all of Lester's films. A lot of people try to define someone's best work when they haven't seen their entire library. It's a normal occurance but so is calling a new film "great", when a lot of people believe that great is a historical term and should be kept away from new films. These things happen.
