My roommate just said, "Nikki, Crash wasn't that bad a movie, it opened a lot of doors for a lot of people."

Right.
Classic.

No offense to Jack Nicholson (whom I love), but: "Crash."

EDIT: Spelling.

This will top everyone's list for this week.
There's a guy I work with who likes to talk to me about movies... he hated a movie he kept calling "Mongolia"... later, I figured out, he meant Magnolia... today he was talking about liking Crash a lot... I asked him, out of curriosity why he liked Crash, but not Magnolia:

"Because Crash had a POINT and Magnolia DIDN'T!"

Actually, he's right, you know...  Crash had a big loud point, and Magnolia didn't really have any point in particular to make.  (Magnolia kind of was its own point)

Fortunately, most of us (at xixax, not in the world) are at least a little above the simplicity of:

A CLEAR POINT = GREAT MOVIE
NOT ANY PARTICULAR POINT = POINTLESS AND THUS NOT WORTH THE TIME

People like this probably don't see films until everybody tells them they should.

So true.  My roommates laughed at me when, after the Oscars, I went directly to the computer because, "I just can't handle this!".
Classic.

So today at work, the bartender brought in a magazine for me to look at. The manager picked it up and was looking through it. She sees a picture of Chloe Sevigny.

"She's weird. I mean I like her, but she's weird. She picks the weirdest roles to play." she continues, "I watched this movie with her in it, 'Rabbit.' It's supposed to be one of those life altering movies, and deep. but when it was over, I sat there confused. It was so weird." She asked me, "Have you seen that?" I have no idea what this girl is talking about so I said, "No." She starts to talk again, "It was boring. for a lot of the movie theres no talking and he just drives around a lot." I start to laugh and say, "THE BROWN BUNNY!"

Rabbit.

When I used to work at Blockbuster, I would always get people mis-naming movie titles. The only one I can remember (sadly I thought long and hard) is a customer asking me where she could find "The Hunt For Crimson Tide In October." I then told the customer how it was cheapter to rent two 'favourites'  rentals opposed to one cause imagine her suprise (gasp) that she would wind up with two films.

I'd even say it transcends being just a movie and is some other kind of strange, non-definable art.
Raven haired Linda and her school mate Linnea are studying after school, when their desires take over and they kiss and strip off their clothes. They take turns fingering and licking one another's trimmed pussies on the desks, then fuck each other to intense orgasms with colorful vibrators.

these two big white dudes sat in the theater long after the credits finished rolling in l'enfant, one explained to his friend "that movie was very French," the other said "I think it was made in Belgium", to which the original guy said "hmm, that's interesting."
"Tragedy is a close-up; comedy, a long shot."

a comment left for me on myspace by a good friend of mine:

QuoteI don't know if i can trust your judgement in movies anymore. Me and Mike watched The New World and um, it sucks. It seemed like it was 6 hours long. How can that be your top 3 in 05' but you refuse to see V for Vendetta?!? Something is wrong with you woman!

Something is wrong with you, Bethie.

Something is wrong with all of us.

We're the fuckin' weirdos of the world.  Though we should know by now not to recommend certain movies to people who aren't going to enjoy those movies; it's just gonna end badly.

Like the song says: The one thing we share is death, so just give up, Mary Beth.

I actually didn't recommend it to her because I do know better. She wanted my (cause I have superior taste) top ten list from 05 and 04 and wanted to watch them all. So the past month her and this other said person, Mike, have been watching my favourites from the past couple years.

I saw United 93 with them both last week. The girl hardly even knew about 9/11. On the ride home they mentioned that two of my favourites from 05 were coming out to rent soon. Munich and The New World. The girl had no idea what Munich was all about and apparently she has no idea what The New World was all about either.  :saywhat:

haha one film I actually did recommend to her years ago was Casablanca, she got pissed at me cause she thought it was sad. haha
