Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

My city gets every bad horror movie, but we didn't get this one. I'm so bummed. If it isn't here in a few weeks, I swear I'm road tripping to just see it.

This was no Hostel. It didn't even have one ounce of the gore that Roth's film had, or even a story concept. It's the kind of horror film that has the one sentence pitch and fills in the rest with suspense and scares; it had neither which is why it felt so empty. And it must have the slowest pursuit chase ever filmed: Heroes swim underwater, come up for air in a pocket, breathe, move on. Bad guy swims after them, comes up for air in a pocket, breathes, continues.
