Monster Road Trailer

Monster Road is a feature-length documentary that explores the dazzling and fantastic worlds of legendary underground clay animator Bruce Bickford.   The film journeys back to Bickford's childhood in a competitive household during the paranoia of the Cold War and examines his relationship with his father, George, a retired aerospace engineer who is facing the onset of Alzheimer's Disease.

Combining verite footage, interviews, home movies, childhood drawings, and never-before-seen animation, the film explores the remarkable combination of family and aesthetic influences that propel Bruce Bickford to work, and that continue to fuel his cinematic visions and nightmares.

I recently caught this at a film festival I attended and thought it was a really great film.  It has played at a number of festivals across America and according to the website is about to premiere on the Sundance Channel on June 20, 2005.  Hopefully a DVD deal is in the works too, but I'm not sure.  I hope some others get a chance to see this.

I saw this at a film festival, too, and it is wonderful. The stop motion footage featured throughout is stunning.

The director, Brett Ingram, is awesome. We got to hang out for a few days during the festival.

That's my celebrity story for the night.

The DVD is finally here!  This was one of the best movies I saw from 2005.  Hopefully with the DVD release more people get a chance to see this impressive documentary.

Continuing the grand tradition of being one of two participants in this thread -- I just got my copy of the DVD in the mail today. All of the extra animated sequences are worth the price of the disc alone.

I just ordered mine.  I can't wait.
