Any art worth the effort is pretentious by definition.

Hey, that's your own fault! The opportunity to discover his opinion was wide open.

SHAFTR

It played at the Wisconsin Film Festival a few months back but it sold out quickly and I didn't get to see it.  The university's Cinemateque is showing it for free in early july...so I'll go see it then.

I got to see it at the Wisconsin Film Festival and thought it was good. I heard mostly positive things as the audience left the theatre, for whatever that's worth.
Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things: Jack and shit . . . and Jack just left town.

LostEraser

I missed my chance to see it at the nuart here in LA. I really want to. I heard it actually turns into a very revealing portrait of Lars Von Trier.

On a side note, what the hell is up with all these Uncle Joey avatars and quotes???
Capra tells us that, in effect, love's dreams are only dreams and that they will never quite bear translation into practical forms of relationship and expression. They will never be realized in the world but only in our consciousness and in our most daring and glorious works of art - but that, for Capra, is no reason to abandon love's dreams.

Oh I've GOT to have the Basic Instinct One!

Hey, can I design some too? How about one with his head over Naomi Watts when she's masterbating

Or one where his head over Frank Booth when he's giving it to Dorthy Vallens.

Or maybe one over Julianne Moore's fave when she's saying "this is a giant cock!"

Just some suggestions.

viva la revolution!!!(???)

Pretentious, yeah.  But you need to have pretenses to enjoy the film, since it's geared towards the people who know who von Trier is and have seen at least one of his films.  I didn't know the other guy, and never saw "The Perfect Human," but do know who von Trier is, and loved the movie.  The short films his teacher makes are really good, but there's a level of technique there you need to be on the ball about to appreciate, I feel.  There's really no argument to say it isn't pretentious, but this pretense works for the movie.  It's a necessary pretense, you might say.  I loved it and recommend it.
