so many quirky delights! i wanna watch it again as well.

here're a few others that i enjoy:

- barry and lena leave the restaurant and just walk to the car in silence, giving each other awkward glances

- barry, all excited as he arrives at the airport in hawaii, walks rapidly, then starts running, then slows down immediately and keeps walking, then starts running again

- barry at the phone booth in hawaii, asks lena all these questions, then she finally says 'do you want to meet up so we can talk?' to which he replies 'sure. where are you from originally?'

love love love

When he starts playing the piano for the first time, the lighting changes in a middle of a shoot. It's very dark at first but while the camera slowly zooms in on his face the lightning changes to a much warm and bright light. I love that.

I think it could be cool with a thread where we take screenshots of our favorite shots in PDL and then discuss them.

Captain of Industry

This thread blew my mind.  I mean I've seen this movie at least five times and haven't noticed half of what's in here.

I don't know what it says, but a red background with an arrow on it certainly links in with the motif of Barry following red objects that was pointed out earlier in the thread.
"Should I bring my own chains?"
"We always do..."

Can we ban the use of CMBB? It went from cute to creepy quickly.
It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

Red is the common color for love.  Not that i have added to the discourse here, but I am getting ready to watch this instead of typing papers for finals.

YES!
it's not the wrench, it's the plumber.

what's creepy about it?

and since you're the only one who's ever made this association in three years i fail to see how it was a "quick" transition..

there's no rule saying you have to use it so a "ban" makes no sense either. i think it's perfectly acceptable just as any other abbreviation we've been using for years, eg. PDL, boogie, maggie, peedy, hardy. or for other directors there's Mully D, EWS, the shin, barryndon, clork. seems quite normal to me.

probably someone already mentioned this before here, but when barry calls lena from the payphone in hawaii and she answers the cabin light switches on...I always like that.

Sleepless

After reading this thread I decided to stick PDL on last night. Didn't get far into it (will have to watch in it's entirety again soon), but just the very first 10 minutes calmed my 4-week-old. No mean feat, I can assure you. Gonna be playing him the soundtrack to sooth him from now on.
He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

AND, in a continuation of the motif whereby the score melds with the sound-world of the film, when the light switches on we get a "PING!" on the soundtrack.

The Perineum Falcon

i've always liked Barry literally putting himself in a corner when his sister comes to harrass him about bringing her friend to dinner.
We often went to the cinema, the screen would light up and we would tremble, but also, increasingly often, Madeleine and I were disappointed. The images had dated, they jittered, and Marilyn Monroe had gotten terribly old. We were sad, this wasn't the film we had dreamed of, this wasn't the total film that we all carried around inside us, this film that we would have wanted to make, or, more secretly, no doubt, that we would have wanted to live.

Ordet

Barry walking backwards out of his office before he turns and says: "I don't know" then the colors fill the screen. In Sydney, Sydney does a similar movement as he looks around in an exterior shot, the casino lights in the B.G. and turns a complete 180 in his place. I think that's really cool. It's like a little character dance. (Daniel's limp in CMBB is like a constant dance) it's probably been pointed out in this thread but after Barry smashes the plunger and rice flies all over. Before they have dinner one of his his sisters asks if he's been using the dandruff shampoo she bought him.

Redlum that's a lovely drawing. Thanks
