a new edition of the DVD is long overdue

What I appreciate most about the Shawshank Redemption is how it and Saved By The Bell made up the bulk of TBS's programming

Oh, and The Shawshank Redemption is a ... uh ... good movie.  Yeah, that's the ticket!

DVDAnswers obtained some artwork for the new Shawshank Redemption: 10th Anniversary edition, which should be arriving in shops a little later this year. The design below looks to be more of an insert graphic than a DVD cover, but it looks pretty darn' cool so we thought we'd bring you it anyway. Warner have yet to officially announce this title, so the details are still very sketchy at present. We're hearing though that the disc will include around ninety minutes of features, including a director commentary, documentaries and even a parody of the film! As soon as further details emerge, we'll bring them to you. Stay tuned. For now though, here's our first look at the rather impressive piece of artwork, which was originally created with acrylic paints and coloured pencils by a Drew Struzan:

It may look like an insert, but God I hope that's the cover! Brilliantly beautiful.

OK, so it isn't that great, but The Green Mile has some value on its own, I think. But no, it's no Shawshank.

I hope the parody is somewhat better than the "Night of the Living Bread" short parody that accompanied the recent "Night of the Living Dead" DVD. ...

yeah it looks great, so they wont use it.  they'll find a way to make robbins and freemans faces even BIGGER than on the current release and maybe put some stupid quote like "INCREDIBLY MOVING!" on there to make it look as stupid as possible.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

The race is on to make a face-based cover more obnoxious than Secret Window.  But WB's special edition covers are pretty classy, so I don't expect this to be another big head cover.

Not one of the better dvd covers out there...
