Yeah, you're right.  Funny isn't the right word.  It does drag on a little longer than it should.

Stupid fun comedies are great.  I like Dumb and Dumber (but who doesn't?), Office Space, Ace Ventura 1 & 2, Naked Gun series, and Hot Shots, to name a few.

I didn't name Office Space because I thought it was assumed that all of us cinephiles / movie snobs loved it...

you can add National Lampoons Christmas and Vegas Vacations to my list as well...
Those who say that the totalitarian state of the Soviet Union was not "real" Marxism also cannot admit that one simple feature of Marxism makes totalitarianism necessary:  the rejection of civil society. Since civil society is the sphere of private activity, its abolition and replacement by political society means that nothing private remains. That is already the essence of totalitarianism; and the moralistic practice of the trendy Left, which regards everything as political and sometimes reveals its hostility to free speech, does nothing to contradict this implication.

When those who hated capital and consumption (and Jews) in the 20th century murdered some hundred million people, and the poster children for the struggle against international capitalism and America are now fanatical Islamic terrorists, this puts recent enthusiasts in an awkward position. Most of them are too dense and shameless to appreciate it, and far too many are taken in by the moralistic and paternalistic rhetoric of the Left.

Gone Fish'n....

Very stiupid & very funny..

True point.  Office Space is the comedy that treads the fine line between stuff like Dumb and Dumber, and stuff like The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and Punch-Drunk Love, and About Schmidt.

I don't love Office Space.  It's just "okay" to me...I think people are really eager to call it "great"

Just read it.  That came off as a poor attempt at being funny/clever by an intelligent man.  I'm actually suprised he spent that long on it.  Sad, really...

THIS IS NOT AN EXIT

This is a STUPID comedy thread.  The Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker films do not belong in this thread, since, IMO, they are very intelligent films.

Captain Ron is another childhood favorite of mine.

One that's never mentioned is Kung Pow. This thing has been on cable hundreds of times lately, and every time I pass it, I'm drawn in.

I think this is the funniest movie I've seen in a long, long time.

It sucks, but that's the beauty of it. It's supposed to.

Something Spanish

"Half Baked". It was dumb, but during my stoner days I couldn't get enough of this flick.

Sir Smokes Allot: BITCH! You know what I want. I wanna TALK TO SAMSON! Fly me to the moon like that bitch Allan Grhamson(?). Cause it's hard being black and gifted. SO I call Samson to get LIFTED.

Also, every Cheech & Chong movie. And "The Big LEbowski", which is a fucking masterpiece. And if you decide to contest my picks, well, that's just like, your opinion man.

"Ernest Hemingway once wrote: 'The world's a fine place, and worth fighting for.'  I agree with the second part."

"Have you ever fucking seen that...? Ever seen a mistake in nature?  Have you ever seen an animal make a mistake?"

That review is proof that Ebert HAS LOST HIS FUCKING MIND.

Xixax

Yeah, Ebert is pretty useless in my opinion.

I'm more of a Roeper guy.
