I first watched Letterman in the mid '90s staying up way too late on weeknights when I had to get up at 5:45 a.m. to go to school my senior year of high school. This was way before Conan was a blip on the radar for me.

I have enjoyed the post retirement giving even less of a fuck Letterman of recent. His show on Netflix is Hit or Miss, primarily because some of the guests he have I'm just not interested in hearing. But his episode with John mulaney post his visit to rehab was really compelling. I also liked him visiting Seth Meyers for his 10th anniversary. I've also gone to Seth a lot recently because of all the societal shit going on. I slept on him over the past 10 years and his show has grown into a really good successor. But I digress

Dave was definitely My Dude. Big time. And I agree about his "No Introduction" show--it succeeds or fails based entirely on my interest in the guest.  Kudos to Uncle Dave for inviting a broad spectrum of guests.
