Someone else posted on that subreddit that it played before a screening of Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! in Santa Monica last night. Honestly if I lived in LA I would just be booking tickets to whatever films are playing in 35mm this weekend. Quite a cool way to build buzz really.

Not sure it builds buzz for people who wouldn't have watched it anyway.

Who is going tomorrow and recording it?

Nobody dares bring out their cellphone at the New Bev. That place has an atmosphere like church. I'll be catching the trailer tomorrow.

*checks American Cinematheque's 35mm screening schedule*

OK.  Xanadu is playing Friday afternoon.

I posted this mostly as a goof.

I bought a fucking ticket this morning at 3:30am after laying there and staring at the ceiling for an hour thinking about it.

Hearing the film described as "romantic Boogie Nights" increases my hype finally

Not a single invocation yet of the dreaded OUATIH comparison.  :nono:

Everything that PTA will ever do with more than one main character will be compared to Boogie Nights.

Well, sure--if it's period. Otherwise, Magnolia...

He seems petrified at the idea of making a movie about the "modern" world, which is a huge weakness, in my opinion—such a great filmmaker should film the current world he lives in.

Maybe "disinterested".

He admitted that including modern technology in a narrative was a challenge. It would be phony to pretend that cellphones don't exist.

Alethia

Yeah but modern technology is so ugly.

Robyn

If Inherent Vice took place today he would never leave the couch!

Yeah but modern technology is so ugly.

The beauty of an image isn't necessarily equivalent to the beauty of what's being captured, though.
