not too many kiarostami fans here.

In addition to Certified Copy, which of his do you recommend?
My house, my rules, my coffee

Sleepless

He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

well the comment was only pertaining to certified copy as it's coming out this year and no one's brought it up here.  (which can only mean no one's anticipating it, right? ...)

i haven't seen everything of his but what i have, most of i consider to be amongst the very best.   rarely is cinema simultaneously "progressive" (for lack of better word) and humanist, and kiarostami achieves both with such uncanny that it's unfair.  kurosawa said that he was saddened by the loss of satyajit ray but heartened to discover kiarostami.

close-up, taste of cherry, and the wind will carry us are indisputable masterpieces as well as the most readily available of his films -- criterion has the first two.  i love where is the friend's home?, life, and nothing more..., and abc africa

I thought Certified Copy was 2010. It's one of the films I wanted to see before xixax voting. If it's 2011 then it's on my list.

There's a copy floating around but it doesn't have hard coded subs.
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

i saw it at the new york film festival and threw it on my year-end list just because.  it's getting a u.s. release (limited, i'm sure) in march.  there's a blu-ray from artificial eye out in the uk that's region free which i went ahead and bought despite the impending criterion release.  i've seen the movie three times now and it's held up to repeat viewings marvelously.  i haven't been this hooked on a movie since the new world and mulholland drive.

Taste of Cherry is sublime, but don't look it up on wikipedia or imdb because of spoilers.

Obviously what you are doing right now is called (in my upcoming book of psychology at least) validation. I think it's a normal thing to do. People will reply, say anything, and then you're gonna do what you were subconsciently thinking of doing all along.

The Ultimate Badass

The Tree of Life poster makes me cry. Seriously.

Pas

Seriously is a bit like literally in a sense that we (people) most often use it with the opposite of it's real meaning. Anyway, just reread all your posts of the last 3 years. I think you should post more often.

The Ultimate Badass

I added the "seriously" to emphasize the fact that the preceding sentence was sincere and not internet forum hyperbole. After seeing the trailer and reading about the film, I seriously became emotional after seeing the poster.

But thanks for the encouragement. I'll try to post more. What always kept me from doing so in the past, and, incidentally, what what keeps me coming back here, is the ferocious smugness of the local peanut gallery.

yet you keep coming back. seriously.

haha, just kidding. and while i agree with you, there came a time two or so years ago in which i realized the entire site is a smug local peanut gallery. If you're looking for something deeper, and it stops you from posting, this ain't the place.
the one last hit that spent you...
