The thing about this PTA blowup is, maybe frame your criticisms about him in a way that doesn't paint his fans as a bunch of idiots and assholes.

Foreword by the Safdie Brothers
A heavily illustrated mid-career monograph exploring the 30-year creative journey of the 8-time Academy Awardnominated writer and director
Paul Thomas Anderson has been described as a true auteur and among the foremost filmmaking talents of his generation. His films have received 25 Academy Award nominations, and he has worked closely with the finest actors of our time, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Joaquin Phoenix, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. In Paul Thomas Anderson: Masterworks, Andersons entire oeuvrefrom Boogie Nights (1997), There Will Be Blood (2007), and The Master (2012) to his music videos for Radiohead to his early short filmsis examined in illustrated detail for the first time.
Andersons influences, his style, and the recurring themes of reinvention, alienation, destiny, and ambition that course through his movies are analyzed and supplemented by firsthand interviews with Andersons closest collaborators and illuminated by film stills, archival photos, original illustrations, and a vibrant, engaging design aesthetic.

So the blow job was more of a conceptual jumping-off point for Get On Your Knees, a one-woman oral-sex meditation thats part stand-up, part poetic treatise. During an extended run in New York, the critically-acclaimed showexecutive produced by Mike Birbiglia and presented by Natasha Lyonnewas enjoyed by comedian John Mulaney, Oscar-winning actors Sally Field and Emma Stone, Pulitzer Prizewinning playwright Tony Kushner, and pop-culture power couple Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson.
Growing up in high school and college, I just wanted to be Paul Thomas Anderson, said Novak, recalling her most surreal Get On Your Knees celebrity encounter. After the show, Novak was able to spend some time with Rudolph and the filmmaker. I started dropping fanboy tidbits on himIt was the panic of, How am I going to communicate the depth of my fandom to this person without being an asshole?
Her solution involved name-dropping the filmmakers 1993 short Cigarettes & Coffee, referencing some obscure cross-casting between Boogie Nights and the 1980s short The Dirk Diggler Story that preceded it, and mentioning deep trivia involving a script passed to Philip Baker Hall. The filmmaker reciprocated by telling Novak he appreciated her midshow callout to the San Fernando Valley, in which he grew up.
I felt the satisfaction of feeling like I communicated that I wasnt just big fanning him in a broad sense, said Novak. I stand by what I said.

Im sure Im preaching to the choir here but it seems strange to me why the editor of a film magazine wouldnt understand why Nolan is so committed to a theatrical experience. The massive scope and image size is built into Nolans art in a way that it isnt for most other films, including Boogie Nights. I mean, a good movie thats been cropped to 1.33 for television is still a good movie, but its still not the intended way youre supposed to be seeing it.
This was such an amazing night just hanging around and bullshitting with two creative idols (three if you count David). And now, because I'm unemployed, I can finally tell this story ... *cue wayne's world flashback sound effect* https://t.co/RQmWvvrvRQ
