Release Date: November 17, 2006 (limited)
Starring: Heath Ledger, Geoffrey Rush, Abbie Cornish, Garry McDonald, Tom Budge
Directed by: Neil Armfield (Twelfth Night)
Premise: Heath Ledger stars as Dan, a charming but reckless young poet who has fallen in love with Candy (Cornish), a beautiful young art student from a comfortable middle-class family who is attracted to the bohemian lifestyle that Dan has long since embraced. In order to get closer to Dan, Candy, whose previous drug use has been casually experimental, starts shooting up. Their passionate relationship then alternates between bursts of ecstatic oblivion and bouts of despair and self-destruction. Hooked as much on heroin as one another, their story becomes a love triangle -- a boy, a girl, and a drug.
old news.
nothing interesting to see here except Abbie Cornish in one of her last australian roles before she only appears in american films. i can't even remember how this movie ended. the highlight was getting drunk at the after-party of the screening i went to with the director and writer of the novel in attendance. another forgettable australian movie that is really just a sophisticated showreel for the world to notice up and coming talent.
