Title: An Evening With Kevin Smith
Post by: A Fire Inside on January 07, 2004, 04:16:15 PM
Has anyone seen this?  It's a collection of like 4 different guest lectures that Kevin did at various colleges around the country.  Its one the funniest things I've ever seen, possibly rivaling his films.

Do a search...you'll find a few threads about Kevin Smith.

This is the only relevant thread, really: http://www.xixax.com/viewtopic.php?t=1389&highlight=evening+kevin+smith  No harm discussing this DVD itself, IMO.

I have the DVD.  Bought it from Mac, here, actually.  (Thanks again, Mac.)  It was probably the funniest, most enjoyable three-plus hours I've spent in a long time.  Kevin Smith is such a great talker.  Loved the story of how he met his wife, his run-ins with Burton, his touch with a possible Superman film and the problems he experienced, etc.

Oh...I didn't know this was a stand-alone DVD.

It's in DVD Talk so I should have figured. :)

You're welcome, Onomacguffintopoeia.

Those stories are all so great and the best of the bunch, but how you forget about his talking about Prince? "Prince wears sneakers?"

Smith is just a natural storyteller. All his antedotes, and the way he tells them, just keep you riveted.

Just got this...made me cry with laughter.

The people who asked him questions were fucking annoying.
"Can I suck your dick for 5 dollars?"...I mean what the hell?? Way to be creative. You get a chance to ask Kevin Smith a question and you ask him that...jeezes...

Loved the story on how he met his wife...that's sweet.

I've been interested in seeing this for a while but too lazy to get it.  I want to see if he told the same stories at all his lectures as he did when I saw him speak at my school.  I hope that I'm wrong and it was always as seemingly off-the-cuff as it was with my experience.

i bought this a while ago from a friend for 5 bucks and it's seriously one of the funniest things i've seen. the story about how he met his wife is great. also, when he calls that guy's boss, asking for his job back....classic.

Came across this post at IMDb, but I'm not sure if there's any truth to it.  The post says, basically, that it was reported a while back on ViewAskew that there would be another An Evening with Kevin Smith.  Don't feel like digging around ViewAskew - not exactly the most intuitive site to navigate.  Still, I thought it might be of interest to some people, so I thought I'd post it.

I'd make him write a script for me and then write BY (INSERT MY REAL NAME HERE) at the top, then I'd sell it and direct it and become famous.

The film would be called "The Fullscreen Coasters"

That wouldn't work because the shit he writes now only gets made because his name is on it.

You just wasted your night with Kev-Kev...

i'd probably describe my character, ask him to describe his character, ask him questions to advance conversations that are going nowhere, maybe wink at a camera that isn't there once in a while (or bring one along for this purpose), i'd use adjectives to make it look like i can write well, and overall limit the whole evening's emotional and intellectual range to that of an 8 year old's.

oh, we'd make like two funny jokes, but mostly we'd play it safe. if there are arguments, the winner would be whoever falls asleep last.

So this is definitely a must-see. Seems a bit more mature, don't know.

Mate of mine has his ticket booked for the London "gig".

Not a big fan of the man or his films, but he can be quite the entertaining orator. Hopefully the second one (which, having seen the trailer, I now doubt) DVD would be slightly more mature...

I would honestly like to know more about his, y'know, FILMS. Not just his dick...

Maybe it's just me.

If you enjoyed An Evening With Kevin Smith as much as I did, then you're in for a treat.  In November, the scatologically witty filmmaker returns with more sessions of questions and banter with his fans in An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder. The 2-disc set features tour footage from his appearances in London and Toronto.  Details to follow when available.
