And it's probably his worst article ever, as well as the least-cerebral examination of a Kubrick film:

nice story about the epilogue and yet another duvall-mistreatment quote to add to the ball i keep in a drawer. as usual, worse than usual really, he's avoided any real insight by quoting half the movie and explaining the rest. by the time he's ready to end the essay, he settles for an enigmatic last line and we're left to make up the brilliance implied. what? i don't hav the energy to do that anymore, Roger.
