Here's a trailer for The Libertine. Looks kinda snarky, if you ask me.

I just took a mean after-Thanksgiving shite, and it looks prettier than that movie does.

Tried to snap a shot, but right after I was finished, this guy pushed me out of the way and hopped on.

Terrible movie.  Its an almost entirely dour, joyless film with characters I didn't care about.  By "care about" I don't mean "like," I mean "interested to see what happens to them."  The world in the film is coarse and depressing, though even films about unpleasant characters in unpleasant situations can be artistically enjoyable.

It is shot in a grainy handheld style to try to make it more real than most costume dramas, but it was sometimes distracting and other times annoying.

Depp was okay and he elevated his role somewhat, but he still seemed kind of bored and tired of the role.  He plays a world-weary and deteriorating character, but even such a character can be interesting to watch.

The only remotely interesting part of The Libertine was a point where Samantha Morton mumbled to the extent that it seemed like she was making up her own language. It probably wasn't intentional.

Saw it last night.

At first I was extremely skeptical. I honestly didn't want to see it. After the scene at the beginning where Johnny uh...pleasures...his lady in the coach, I was a little pissed off, and decided I DEFINITELY wouldn't like it. I mean,my intention wasn't to see softcore porn. But it turned into something much different than that, to my pleasant surprise.

I liked the fucked up love story. I liked how the blonde chick from the theater (I can't remember her name!!) sort of predicted what would happen. (With the three loves thing) I liked how his wife stayed with him through all the shit he put her through, and how Lizzie Barry didn't. It didn't go perfectly, the way things should, and that made me happy. I was actually a little bit depressed when I came out, which I guess is a good thing. I suppose that's what they wanted to happen.

By no means my one of my favorite movies ever or anything, but I DID enjoy it.
