it's a new movie by tsui hark, one of my favorite directors (who's directed a few crap movies though) about seven swords, accompanying seven warriors, that help to save a village from a diabolical general or something.  the seven samurai comparison is inevitable, but this movie is based on a novel that came out in the 30's.

Director Considering 'Seven Swords' Sequel

Hong Kong director Tsui Hark is contemplating a sequel to his recently released martial arts movie "Seven Swords," his wife and fellow filmmaker said Monday.

"We're in the process of deciding," said Nansun Shi, Tsui's wife and executive director of his movie company Film Workshop.

She said a script is being developed and that the film's timetable depends on the schedules of Tsui and the stars.

"Seven Swords," which features Hong Kong's Leon Lai and Charlie Young, is the story of seven martial arts fighters defending a village that evades an imperial ban on kung fu.

It draws its characters from a story by famed martial arts novelist Liang Yusheng.

Shi said the movie has done well in mainland China, grossing more than 82 million Chinese yuan (US$10.13 million; euro8.23 million), since July 29, when the movie opened, and distributors want more.

"Lately many distributors have asked us to take advantage of our winning streak," she told The Associated Press by phone.

Shi said the sequel picks up where "Seven Swords" left off, with the seven fighters taking their campaign against the martial arts ban to Beijing. The story would involve Chinese emperor Qian Long of the Qing dynasty, she said.
