Title: (Wes Anderson) Jeff Goldblum in Buckaroo Banzai IS Eli Cash
Post by: analogzombie on April 21, 2005, 03:37:57 PM
Has anyone ever noticed that Jeff Goldblum's character from 'The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai' is surprising like Eli Cash?
Both dress as cowboys and want to be part of some bigger family they are somewhat outside of.

This coupled with Jeff Goldblum's appearance in The Life Aquatic, and that's films action sequence's resemblence to Banzai, make me think Anderson is a fan of Banzai and Goldblum's character. Anyone know if he's made mention about that?

Quote from: IMDBWes Anderson has stated the walking sequence in the final credits is an homage to Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, The (1984), also starring Jeff Goldblum.

i'm not sure. i think so. put it this way, when i watched it, i thought it was amazing. it's like a comic book of superheros who are really scientists/rock n' roll stars who stumbhle on to an intergalactic race war. so yes, it's spectacular!

plus john lithgow is awesome!

I saw this at Sam's for $6.88, so I got it.
Wes Anderson mentioning the Life Aquatic's end credits nod is what put it in the back of my mind for years - and probably just the really weird title.

The end credits really are fun to watch. The dancing feet are a nice touch. The site has been used in many movies, and the actors did their scene listening to Billy Joel's Uptown Girl since the score was not finished and this song had the same tempo. After the movie was finished the producer thought the ending was too abrupt so he fronted more money to do this sequence with a choreographer.

Fast forward to 20 seconds if you don't want to spoil the final scene/shot before the credits begin:
